In spite of Toyota U.K. specifying 10000 miles or 12 months (whichever comes first), I change the engine oil and filter at six months after each annual dealer service. Yaris 1.4 Diesel.
Toyota Genuine Motor Oil 5W/30 (semi synthetic), genuine Toyota filter and new drain plug washer. Dealer uses the same oil. |

It costs about $20 for synthetic oil changes at home . Oil filter $4 ( AC Delco PF1233 or Toyota YZZF2 ) , 4 quarts Shell synthetic oil at $3.50 each ( w/tax ) , and paper towels . Can't beat that . Here are U.O.A.s from the sedan . Column 1 : Shell syn 5w-20 , 2nd : Shell syn 5w-30 , 3rd : Pennzoil Yellow Bottle ( P.Y.B. ) regular 5w-30 . All oil intervals in the reports had the Toyota 90915-YZZF2 oil filter .

Did a oil change earlier and will be posting a new U.O.A. of the SHELL synthetic 5w-20 (S.N.) with a AC Delco oil filter . The oil / filter had 4,649 miles of use . Had to get it done thanks to poor weather in the upcoming weeks . Have to change oil / filter on the driveway ( brrrrr , was 28 with a light wind and some sun ) . Replaced the AC Delco to the Toyota oil filter with another round of the SHELL syn 5w-20 . Will be about a few weeks before posting the U.O.A.. Hope all turns out well .

LOL (can't resist replying) -- I drove away after one oil/filter change and noticed (steam? light? Both? --- can't remember) and pulled over and checked under the hood. They didn't put the cap back on after putting the oil in the engine! I drove back to the place and pointed this out to the owner. They drove to the Toyota dealership, bought me a new cap, returned, changed the oil and filter again, and gave the car back to me with a cupon for a free oil change. I did avail myself of the free oil change (and double checked the results upon completion), but by the time for the next oil/filter change came around I went to another place I'd found (that was cheaper as well).

Got an oil/filter change recently at 240,010 miles...about 14,000 since last change. I could have gone longer, but figured this close to a milestone would make it easy to remember without looking at my records. Later that day I got my free tire rotation at Firestone....about 15,000 miles on the tires....again an easy to remember milestone. Firestone does a free balancing with each rotation, which I did not know before. I just happened to see the tech roll one of the tires away from my car, mount it on the machine, and close the lid.
P.S. This = my 15th oil change since purchased new ^^^^^ P.S. Added on 5-22-13 P.P.S. ----- Just noticed today (2-28-14) that this was my 16th oil change, not 15th Last edited by nookandcrannycar; 02-28-2014 at 03:43 PM. Reason: Added P.P.S. |

OH, I just figured it out, you averaged an oil change every 16,000 miles - I can't wait to change the oil on this car, but it will be awhile. Every time I talk about how easy it will be to change the oil on 'Scruffy', I get the ball & chain saying, 'Don't forget you have 2 years of free oil changes' - Yeah whatever! |

Among Yarisworld members who are original owners, there are at least 4 between trini and me. When Contraband831 posted that he was at 246,000 I was at 244,400. Another original owner/member is at 265,000+ miles and two more are at 350,000+ miles. Tops among our non original owners (and he's enhanced his Yaris quite a bit) is Mazilla at over 530,000 miles. Mazilla bought a courier company that included 20 Yari....and each Yaris (among the 20) was at some point in the range between 350,000 and 500,000 miles! It is interesting that the semis are going 100+ thousand miles in some trucks. They send off oil samples every so often and do an oil change only when the numbers start to look bad. Often they can tell when something is going wrong with the engine before it breaks by picking up on what is in the oil. Also, they use gallons of oil, not quarts.

Hey guys,
just purchased 2007 Yaris RS with 106k kms. Two days ago did an oil change. Prefer Mobil synthetic 5W30 (Extended Perfomance if possible). With Mobil oil filter or K&N filter. 5qt jug of synthetic Mobil from Walmart in the states is roughly $26. Mobil filter is $15 and K&N is $8. Gonna do oil change every 4000 kms. |
