Hello folks.. you may have seen some of my noob posts the past week. Well I've finally test driven a Yaris, and taken off work March 31st to go dealer hopping =) I feel safe to say I AM getting one, not just a "maybe."
This is my first car thats not a hand-me-down, and I am EXCITED. I hope to do mods, and actually care for it unlike my current car that I've never even washed in the 5 years I've driven it lol. I love forums, I'm *usually* not very talkative, more of a lurker, but I've been having many questions and am sure I will have more.. so I am looking forward to joining the community and maybe giving my own insight once I get my car :D I'm 21 and live near Chicago, Illinois. I hope to have a Black Sand Pearl 2door liftback automatic. The mods I'm looking into are tinted windows, tinted lights (still having trouble figuring out how legal this is), black hubcaps, the Clazzio seatcovers, maybe some painting on the interior, and maybe some light changing on the radio/console areas. Of course, I'm poor so I'll probably just drool over everyone's fancy cars ;) |

Although I am obviously not a new member here, nor new to my '07 liftback, but I wanted to let everyone know we've added another yaris to the stable! It's a '09 Carmine Red metallic liftback, 5spd (I'm so excited about this!!
), pretty much all the same options as the '07 we have except for the color, TPM, ABS, tranny & reclining rear seat. It's my girlfriends and she is learning to drive a stick for the first time. Her username is Astrogirl so if you see her on here make sure she feels welcome. She's excited to attend meets now as she has her own yaris. |

hmm. i guess this is a bit overdue! a little about the owner, then i'll introduce the star of the show...
first off, my name's rob and i live in daytona beach, fl. it's a great place to visit, but it sucks living here. as much as it saddens me to say, i'm still in the process of making the transition from "just a student here" to "yup, i'm a local." i'm in my last year of school, graduating soon with a degree in air traffic management. i'm kind of excited, but not quite ready to start paying back those loans! ![]() i've never been the happiest driver out there, as i've had more cars than there are years i've been driving.. all of which have been either hand-me-downs or loaners. my first car was Evette, an '89 corsica that i bought from my grandma for $50 when she surrendered her license (was too old), in 2002 (the car met her death when she literally fell apart in the shop and as a result, didn't pass inspection). my second was Stella, my '96 neon. my mom was gracious enough to let me take it off her hands for $400. she ran great. until she decided to slip on some gravel and wrap herself around a tree. after a short hiatus, i got Nemus. He was my '96 ranger. he was the first vehicle i bought for more than a few hundred. my cousin let me have him for $2,000. i didn't even know how to drive stick shift at that point. i only bought the truck because it was cheap, and the color blue he was, was my favorite color. he met his fate almost a year later when, in new york, i hit some ice on the highway, spun a few times, and crashed in the median. after Nemus, came Percy. Percy was a 1990 mazda b2200i. tiny little thing. he was free, but only a loaner. my uncle let me borrow him until i had enough money to get my own. then i graduated high school and got Martha. Martha.... was a tank. she was my '96 concorde. she handled ANYTHING that came her way! deer? HA! no match for her (she was cross eyed after that one, though). being rear ended? psh - bent license plate. shopping carts would bounce off her, and she would eat ice for breakfast all winter. she was great. unfortunately, she had to be put down when, after getting an estimate and not having enough money to fix everything that was wrong with her at the shop, i had to sign a waiver saying i wouldn't sue the shop if anything went wrong because she was quickly becoming a death trap. in july of 2007, i parted her out and put the money toward the down payment of a new car - Thumper. for the last year and a half or so, Thumper has been the light and joy of my life... in a non-creepy sorta way... zipping around other cars on the highway, parking in the "green parking only" spaces, sharing a parking spot with a smart car.... oh, the looks we get together! Thumper.... is my Yaris. when i got him, he was just a stock car. the only factory added option was the convenience package, which is indeed convenient. we've had so many first experiences together. to name a few: first ticket together (not using a turn signal to change lanes), first wash/wax/detail, first car that i've taken apart to mod all by myself (i don't even change my own oil and i had my headlights in the oven??), and lastly, the first car that i've cared enough about to join a forum and read up on other proud Yaris owners and what they do with their own cars. this place is truly a wealth of information that i wouldn't have even imagined existed in the public realm! ten points to this site! so with all of that being said, I am Rob, and this is my car; Thumper. nice to meet you all! d=(^_^)=b

what's sad, is after Martha died and was long gone, I got a love note in the mail from her... it read:
Robert, Our love began with a glance across a parking lot, You possessed me in just a few days. I remember long drives through the countryside, And long weekend getaways. But the years passed, and like upholstery in the hot sun, Your love began to fade. And now in a time when I need your care the most, You hit the blinker and turn away. And while our gas tank of love may be running on fumes, I still have plenty of love to share. So if you have a quart of tenderness left for me in your heart, Take me back to Firestone Complete Auto Care. Love, Your 1996 Concorde LX ...i still have that card somewhere =P

I've been lurking here a while, and registered because sometimes I see something I want to answer. I'm not really new to Yaris. I bought my daughter a 2001 Echo, which was a great little car. My wife wanted one just like it, but we waited too long and they quit making them. Got her a sporty black 2007 Yaris Sedan S, which I thought looked like an old fashioned Batmobile. (My daughter named it Bruce.) My wife loved it and it's a terrific little car. I was driving a nice Volvo 850 Turbo, bright red with sunroof, spoiler and mags, but it was getting long in the tooth and about to require a lot of expensive fixing up. Traded it and the Echo in and got two identical loaded Yaris Sedans, one in Slate Mica Gray for my wife, one in Barcelona Red for me, and gave the sporty little S (which is like new with very low mileage) to my daughter. So we're a three Yaris family. I've gone through my stages of building hot rods, racing around and such, and now I know that you really can't drive that way. I need a car that'll get me where I need to go reliably and economically, and haul what I need to carry and a few other people now and then. (I went for the sedan because it seemed more practical and safer hauling things like guitars and amps in the trunk than in a hatchback.) The Yaris serves these utilitarian purposes while not feeling like a utensil. It's a fun little car to drive, looks great, and I'm proud of it. My Dad would have loved it! He was a "hypermiler" before they thought of the name, going back to the Depression years when it meant the difference between being able to buy the gas to go somewhere or staying home and doing without. But he continued doing it as a hobby and used to get Yaris-like mileage figures in the 30s-40s MPG routinely in a 1964 Chevrolet BelAir with a six cylinder, three speed manual transmission with overdrive, using all of the advanced hypermiling techniques and some adjustments like maximally inflated tires and grossly overadvanced ignition timing. I wouldn't go to the extremes he did, but learned some of his techniques and don't do too badly on gas. His last car was a 1983 Chevrolet Chevette Diesel, which I believe was the highest mileage car he could buy then. I always thought it needed a set of pedals for auxiliary power. I drove it for several years after his death (I got it going after it had sat untended for around 6 years), and finally gave it to a man who had a high school shop class fix it up for his grandson. I don't think the Yaris can do as well on mileage as the Chevette Diesel, but it sure is a much nicer car!
