my first mod, blacked out emblems
So I've been getting the itch to finally do something to my car, but I'm afraid of anything too complicated so I decided to hit my emblems with some black paint. I liked the finish of the AC vents that Meteorite_Marty used so I went and grabbed some Krylon ultra flat black camoflauge spraypaint and got to work.
Pretty simple process, removed emblems with a light guitar string and a plastic paint scraper, leaving no scratches in the paint. Gave them each a light sanding first. I put about 5 coats on each emblem just to be sure I didn't miss anything and here's the end result. Don't look at all the bugs on the front... I almost didn't do the Yaris nameplate but I think it looks ok, and I like people to know what kind of car I have. Like I said it was an easy process and I encourage people who want to look a little different to do it. The paint matches the rest of the black pieces on the car well.

Looks very nice!
I had some issues, being in Wisconsin, with salt from on the roads messing with my painted emblems and will have to repaint. At least it's something easy.

Yep, looks real good. Will be interested to see how it holds up. Least you don't have to worry about winter abuse.
Did you sand first, or just spray right on the shiny chrome?

Thanks!
I guess if I lived near the coast I'd have to worry about the salt in the air... And yeah it was super easy, I asked my mom if she wanted to me to do the same to her Camry, but she said no, haha. I did sand before I painted, got some 320 grit sandpaper. And the tape I used to stick them back was 3M body tape of some sort, they're on pretty secure.

I actually like it very much. Looks great!
I'd even like it more if you rebadged with the Vitz nameplate. |

Looks great! Finish looks so smooth and clean. The paint is really a great product, isn't it?
According to other members, this paint is very durable for outside use. |

has anyone done this to a vitz logo? considered doing the back one and tinting tails, but the vitz emblems have chrome and black on them already. that looks really good.

I had mine debadged and i`m happy with it. Now i want to do the same you did with the toyota emblems. the front one pops out very easy, but i`m not sure about the back one. how hard is it to put 3m tape on the narrow back emblem? did you use a cutter to do that?
Here`s mine debadged + mud guards.

The rear one isn't TOO hard to get off, but it takes a little more time. There are two pins holding it straight so when the floss/fishing line hits those it gets to be a pain. I cut the tape with some scissors into small strips and placed them on the back of the emblem.
It looks better today now that the paint has hardened more, and if it does ever chip ill take them off and sand and apply a few more coats to keep the appearance at it's best.

I painted theese today...pictures were taken after the first coating.
"toyota" - sanded , "yaris" - not sanded ... i thing "yaris" looks a lot better. I'll stick them on the engine cover which will be painted flat black too.

Looks good. I'm trying to think of a place to put the little Toyota one that I took off, never thought of the engine cover.

I`ll have to take off the front bumper, in order to get the front emblem ... not long enough fingers...
I'm still afraid off taking off the back emblem

Why are you lazy? The "O" and "A" still have double sided tape inside? It would have been nicer if you cut around it. Next time ... let me do it.
