One filament in the headlamp bulb.
Am I missing some detail about the Yaris headlamp bulb? On-line I was looking at different Yaris headlamp bulbs. The headlamp bulb is listed as 65/55W. But all I could see in the clear headlamp bulbs is just one filiment. It looks like the Yaris uses resistors and/or relays to create high beam, low beam and daytime running lights. If I am right, when the DRL burns out the filiament in the headlight bulb, you need to replace the headlamp bulb before dark (or have fog lamps as a backup plan) to avoid driving a one eyed monster.

The yaris uses a 9003/H4 bulb with two filiments.
The DRL uses the low beam (at lower voltage) so, yeah if you loose a DR, replace the bulb ASAP. Last edited by RedRide; 09-05-2009 at 04:39 AM. |

yeppers, you will not see the 2nd filament by looking through the headlight assembly.
Also, if one of your headlight look very DIM compared to the other, you could have a bad ground somewhere... check all your wiring. |

When a headlight does need replacing, it's best done in matching pairs. Replace one, and the two will probably not appear the same color and brightness.

Also, once one goes, the other is living on borrowed time.

Found this at Candle Power Inc. Diagram shows 2 filaments. Front filament for high beam. Rear filament for low beam. Not the best diagram.

Interesting read. The PDF explains the "difference" between a 9003 and H4 and clears that up.
