Digital Fuel Adjuster

> Modify air/fuel ratios
> Allow air-flow meter or injector swaps
> Change closed-loop running characteristics
> Overcome Boost cuts

Ref: Performance Electronics for Cars - Silicon Chip Magazine Publications.

This unit is a huge revolution in DIY automotive performance. It gives you the power to completely tune the air/fuel ratio throughout the entire load range, at 128 load points, providing incredible mapping resolution and brilliant drivability. It uses the Handheld Digital Controller - KC-5386, so there is no need for a laptop, and it supports both static and real-time mapping. It can be used on 0-5V and 0-12V signals, so it is compatible with all voltage output airflow meters and MAP sensors. It can also be set to work with 0-1V signals, allowing modification of EGO sensor signals. This unit has been extensively tested on a wide range of cars including Subaru Impreza WRX and STi, Nissan 200SX, BMW 735i, Lexus LS400, and Nissan Maxima. Kit supplied with a quality solder masked PCB with overlay, machined case with Processed panels, programmed micro and all electronic components.

Kit requires the Handheld Digital Controller - KC5386 and connecting cable WC-7502 (25 pin RS 232 extension cable with all pins connected).

"It is absolutely no exaggeration to say that the release of the Digital Fuel Adjuster is going to cause a revolution in the budget engine management modification." Julian Edgar, Silicon Chip Magazine.
This same device was used to help tune/program the Turbo NHW10 Prius - See attached PDF

Does anyone have any experience with it?

Looks like you need an archaic RS232 cable and a this Hand Controller:

Hand Controller for Digital Adjusters

Ref: High Performance Electronic Projects for Cars - Silicon Chip Publications.
This hand controller is used for the mapping/programming of both Digital Adjuster kits. It features a two line LCD, and easy to use pushbuttons. It can be used to program the adjusters then removed, or left permanently connected to display the adjuster’s operation. It is designed as an interface and display, and is not required for general adjuster functions after they have been programmed. If you have built and installed multiple adjuster kits, you will only need one controller to program, unless you want permanent displays for each adjuster function. Kit supplied with silk screened and machined case, PCB, LCD, and all electronic components.
Requires RS232 Connecting Computer Lead (Use our WC-7502 lead)
Still when all said and done... pretty cheap setup.

I don't have any experience with this device, but do with AEM F/ICs. Reading that Prius article, it really doesn't appear that they were successful in their use of the device.

Also, Since it requires the separate controller for configuring it, the cost for it is $140. I have purchased AEM F/ICs for as little as $200. The website does not provide access to to manual for it to see if any cabling is included (The F/IC includes a harness, which would run about $45 to purchase separately).

I agree that there was a lot of trial and error.

$45!? Wouldn't I need the Boomslang Plug and Play Harness for AEM FIC that runs $475 also?

Not necessarily. You can hard wire the F/IC with the included harness. The boomslang makes the process easier, but is definitely not required.

How many hours of labor would a shop charge to wire in the F/IC?

I would think that a shop would hit you for 4 to 8 hours, but doing it yourself shouldn't take more than an hour or two, as there are only 22 connections to the ECM connectors. The hardest part is convincing yourself to make the hole in the firewall to run the harness through.
