'07 Yaris Clutch replacement
Hi there,
I'm new to the forum and was wondering if any of you could help answer some questions I had. I have a 2007 Toyota Yaris sedan that my parents bought as a daily driver back in September '06. As of last summer it has just become a backup car for extended trips or for the days when my Range Rover 'fails to proceed' (as the manual puts it). The Yaris (as of today) has 272k miles on the odometer and is still running well! I am having some clutch issues though. Every month it seems like its getting weaker and weaker to the point where I feel like if I tried to drain the transmission fluid the whole clutch would just pour out with it! So obviously something needs to be done. My question for you is: How much would a new clutch cost if I swapped it out myself? Are there any other options rather than the stock Toyota clutch, for mileage or acceleration purposes? Is there anything I can do about the clutch disengaging when the pedal is at the floor? Is there any way to get it to disengage halfway like in my Audi?

Could be the clutch master cylinder preventing the clutch from disengaging until the pedal is at the floor. I've replaced a few of those on old Toyotas.

Yes before you REPLACE THE CLUTCH (or ask the friendly mechanic)
1) bleed the clutch and replace the fluid 2) change the slave cylinder 3) change the master cylinder A bad clutch: chatters and shakes and rumbles when you let it out when in gear with the clutch pedal all the way up accelerate briskly. if the engine revs and the speed doesnt increase you need a new clutch. try all the gears...

To answer your question:
Look up the parts online! The clutch in that car lasted more than 200 k miles. Why would you want a different one? Yes bleed the clutch and if necessary change the slave and master clyinder. I think it likely the problem is in the slave or master cylinder. In any case bleed the system first. If either the s or m is leeking you found the problem... Tell us what happens!

you'd want a new one because it is more fun! I hated the Yaris stock clutch with a passion. So glad I bought Jason's clutch and flywheel from him. The car feels better, and I can actually feel when the clutch engages.

Hmmm did you hate the door handles with a passion? How about the turn signals?
Why would you hate a clutch?

Also do Yarisworld member djct watt 's Standard Clutch Test (post #12 on 06silveryaris 's '45k clutch is going thread'. Just park in a flat location a few car lengths away from another car. Only takes a couple of minutes. I've done this test twice since August 2012.

Thank you all for the quick response!
bronsin, you've got a point there. Maybe I will go for another factory clutch. I am going to have the master and slave cylinders checked out though. Neither have been touched since we bought the car in 2006.

master slave cylinder
Well that's good to hear the clutch system in these yaris last a long time.
might as well replace the master and slave cylinders anyhow cause at 272k miles ,it's time Nothing lasts forever. Usually when the actual clutch is going bad it'll start slipping in the upper gears , like 4th,5th gear as you accellerate. |

Sounds like trouble. Accelerate briskly in 2nd and 3rd to a steady speed at relatively high rpms. If it rvs higher the clutch is slipping.
Its all relative though. IF you are carefull with it even a dodgy clutch can last a very long time.
