Factory mp3 skipping, silence, reading problems

I have found a few other people on various forums with problems similar to mine. There is no reason why a new cd player in my yaris should be having problems reading mp3 cds. I use regular name brand cds burned in data mode. I have burned several cds at different bit rates, and I'm beginning to think this thing is broken.

No crap about warped cds and what not. My after market cd mp3 awia player would play anything with no problem. I'll post back at this location after seeing what the dealer is gonna do about it. Highly irritating. The last thing I want is my new dash being taken apart -- just to introduce some rattle that wasn't there before.

[Update: Fixed!] I finally got the radio swapped at the dealership. That took care of all the problems. I am very pleased. If anybody else had these problems, don't take no for an answer from the dealership; these problems are not normal. It now plays just fine with no loading or skipping problems.

I have the same problem as well ~ I took it in and complained about it and they put in a new mp3 player for me ~ It still does the same thing but less now ~

I think I'll take it in again and see what they say about it ~ It does get very annoying ~

I haven't tried playing any MP3 cds in the Yaris yet -- I have both an iPod and the aux input -- but I've historically had pretty spotty luck with them in the past. Most of the players i've tried have been wildly sensitive to things like folder structure. Maybe tomorrow Ill try one out in the Yaris.

I would agree with this. Read in your manual about it. If you just throw songs on there with no organization then you're asking for trouble. I keep it to an 8 folder max. Each folder is 1 full album. When I want a new cd I just switch folders. The stock HU makes this so simple. If your one of those people that just has a ton of mp3's laying around on your computer get them organized. Ask ol' ChinoChuck about both mine and his shared folders. Imaculately maintained.

if i make folders and dont stick any songs on the 'root' folder. it comes up with error.. it wont automatically open a folder or let me go straight to a folder. i'm having the same issues at the first guy with my mp3 player.

Also thought about this on the way to work this morning. Make sure that your mp3's are not VBR or variable bit rate. I think the manual states it has a hard time reading these. As stated I have mp3 cd's from years ago and they still play fine. I have always used Nero to burn. The more folders you have the worse. Say I put 7 albums on a cd. I have 7 folders that are named the artist and album. In those are the songs for the album. I never put the 7 album folders in like one main folder. Its just 7 seperate folders that get burnt.

Right now I'm burning a multi directory CD to test that out. I already did a conversion from VBA to CBR.

I really am looking for feedback, because I suspect this thing is "defective by design". Ticks me off.

A real turn-on was the MP3 functionality--and I hate jumping thru hoops just to make something work. Sorry if there are details in the owner’s manual. . .I didn't get one, just a quick start guide.

But it shouldn't matter. A new CD player with a list of 400 bucks should play anything. My Awia would play anything. I accidentally, one time, put a CD in it and couldn’t figure out why it was skipping every once and awhile -- just barely mind you. Took it out, and it looked like it had been dragged behind my car. . . mud and all.

This nonsense about specific bit rates and filing structure is bull. I collect music, and have a vast and well organized mp3 collection – records, 8-track, cassette, etc. But I like to listen to random stuff from my collection – and putting stuff in directories and structure defeats the whole purpose of making a new CD every couple of weeks or so.

But I digress.

It’s a lovely car. This crap won’t let me forget that. Anybody know where a good aftermarket adapter for a regular head unit can be found? I have an S sedan.

Toyota would have been better off with a factory 6 disc rather than shoddy mp3 compatibility.

Hey, I don't know if it's causing your particular problem or not, but I've seen it cause problems in other MP3CD players.

I hear you, but I haven't seen this since the early days of mp3 CD players -- circa 2002 or so. This thing reminds me of my phillps expandium -- when mp3 players were expensive. A 20 dollar portable from K-mart these days performs better than that 200 dollar early tech worked. Makes me wonder if 'yota bought up a bunch of cheap parts from those early players.

It's worth a shot......it's under warranty anyway ~ Takes about an hour and since it's under warranty ~ You're paying nothing ~

i think is that your MP3 Player is mess up, is not 'cause how you burned it. My Factory MP3 Player plays everything from Mp3 to WMA without organization or folders it (i'm a lazy person).....i think it's because of your Player. you should take it back to your dealer like JASPIE.

AH, someone after my own apathetic disposition. Please convince me this thing is broke. Cause, I still ain't keen on having my dash tinkered with. Yours works with any bit rate and any organization? This gives me hope. I'm a cynical SOB. :)

I have the stock, standard (non-premium) single disc player. The only time it malfunctioned is when I tried applying stick-on labels to the CDs. I rip from CDs using Exact Audio Copy, encode mp3s with LAME VBR, and burn with Nero. I also have some misc mp3s of different bit rates from different sources. I have some mp3 CDs with songs in the root folder but most in album folders.

It sounds like there's a problem with your player.

like I said I had this same problem b4, you just need to make a couple changes in how you burn and it fixes it, I have yet to have a problem since
