Anything can happen. Watch for leaks and overheating. Unfortunately our cars don't have an engine temperature gauge, just an idiot light, so I would be less likely to take a risk.
A car with a completely broken waterpump can overheat within 2 km. All that being said, I drove a car with a damaged (but not broken) waterpump for a few weeks without any problems. However, if it decided to give up in the middle of any of those drives, I would have been stranded and needed a tow back. |

You're in Canada and it's winter. You should be ok for a couple days. You will need to worry about that bearing shearing and sending parts throughout your cooling system though.
Have you loosened the belt to see if the noise stops? |

Probably you will be OK.
If it was my car I would drive it. But have a plan in case something bad happens! Good luck!

Be careful, the water pump impeller might be grinding on the housing inside.

cautious
You can drive it but watch for leaks/puddles under the car every time you park it because they have a weeping hole and when that starts to leak...well brother you better change it out ASAP or you'll find yourself stranded.

I hate that temp light.
When the water pump fails no coolant is pushed past that sensor so it just reads the temperature on the outbound coolant line which stays cool and will read hot when you take a corner that moves the hot coolant to the sensor. So essentially if it fails the only way you can know is if you have the heat on and it starts blowing cold.

Just replaced my Water Pump. Sounded like Marbles in the engine.
One week I took my car in for Oil Change and Tire Rotation. Two weeks later the Water Pump started making the noise. Of course I thought they did it, lol. Next my brakes started feeling like a sponge. I drive a lot, but come on. lol. |
