That BIG wiper!
When I first saw the 3rd generation with that single greyhound bus wiper, I was horrified. What was Toyota thinking? But, now that I own a 2014, I find the wiper to be a brilliant bit of work; it's quiet and very efficient.

That big wiper is one of the coolest things about the car. Works great too.

The big uni-wiper is awesome!
The rear wiper, however, is pretty worthless. |

I guess the awesomeness of the front wiper makes up for the less-than-stellar performance of the rear wiper.

On a side note, I have yet to see even one 2016 scion iA/iM on the road, even though I know their sales are better (more around current Honda Fit levels). Last edited by Kalispel; 12-11-2015 at 03:36 PM. |

My Rear Wiper Improvement......
I have a '13 LE. Been great, 27,000 miles since I bought it with 5 miles on the odo'. ( I use it as a work commuter and occasional Beach Trip Car). It is probably the "Best" car out there for the money, yet so un-loved by the "Auto Experts".....I think they are a bunch of idiots as I have driven/owned/or own everything from VW, Honda, Subaru, BMW, Ford, Mitsubishi, Saturn, Jeep, Isuzu, Mazda, Acura, other Toyota's..etc.....Yaris is a total "secret gem".... a little "buzz bombardier" on a mission. I own 5 cars in total at the moment, all different makes, and the Yaris just rocks....actually puts my BMW to shame I tell ya'.
Okay, on with the "Rear Wiper Fix"....... I discovered that if you buy the Rear Wiper "Arm" and "Bolt Cap Cover" (sold separate from each other) at Toyota Dealer Parts Counters for the first gen' 2007-2011 Yaris Hatchback, and put a 14A Trico Refill on there (I got mine from Advance Auto Parts)....It "vastly" improves the coverage.....actually quite an incredible improvement as the "arm" is longer and angled better and the (Trico 14A) replacement blade is longer than the 12'' inch factory blade. For you SE Owners with the rear spoiler??.... go with the same set-up, but go with a Trico 13A or B(?) on there to clear/not hit the bottom of your rear spoiler...The 14A may work because I noticed there is an indention in the bottom of the spoiler there for the sprayer/3rd Brake Light and it is right about where the wiper would top-out...so test it "carefully" with both sizes because the "14A" blade refill may clear/not hit your spoiler still. It was totally worth the investment for me. I do drive in all weather conditions and the original factory set-up was worthless to me until I noticed at a stop-light sitting behind an '09 Yaris Hatch, that the Arm and Blade were longer..."Hmmm" I thought...so I got the parts, have never looked back since. "Happy Wiping"......Cheers''' Last edited by Onwrdigo; 01-11-2016 at 09:24 AM. |

I put a 16R wiper on my '13 LE without changing the arm or anything else. It's a vast improvement. I think the 12R was only used to save money at the factory. The 16R is a great fit and wipes the whole window.
