Toyota might stop importing certain models.
Some information here that may be of interest. Please, let's try to keep our politics out of any comments.

Car/home/living prices are already quite a bit higher than the average working-person wages in the US can afford, so it should get really interesting if/when car/goods prices spike due to tariffs. Most people really will be hosed if they don't live in 2+ income households - the only reason there is any sizeable 'middle-class' today in the US.
I could see most/all manufacturers seriously reviewing lower-selling imports with tariffs imposed, especially those with slim profit margins like subcompacts. Plus, I think a lot of potential new-car buyers would just keep driving their current vehicles longer out of budgetary necessity, just like they did during/after the last financial crash. I probably would also just out of spite, even though I could afford another vehicle - considering how unappealing I already find 99.9% of new cars being sold in the US anyway (for one reason or another) even at the current pre-tariff prices. |

"But in the Toyota line, anything that's not selling well and has tight margins is probably doomed. Chief among them are the French-built Yaris hatchback and the Mexican-built Yaris iA sedan. Both cars have terrible sales, and being low-end cheap cars, they'll only sell worse with higher prices, and Toyota will lose money if it has to eat the tariff. The 86 is a similar situation in which it's a niche vehicle that has had weak sales and is being sold at a relatively low price."

so.... they'll build car plants here in the states and we have skirted the unavoidable!?
or they'll pull a ford and only sell what actually sells and leave the rest to starve... beauty and the beast style |

It is interesting how the major Japanese auto makers moved all their subcompact manufacturing outside of Japan to deal with the high value of their currency. Now higher tariffs are going to affect their decision-making too.
Let's hope the Yaris lives on in the US. |

The RAV could see the price rise over $9,000 thanks to tariffs . May have to consider buying a new vehicle soon .

Pretty soon, most working Americans who want a mid-range new car will be running around with a 10-15 year term car loan. Welcome to the American Oligarchy.

They could just match the tariffs. Just say ok we're lowering ours to 0%. U.S would match, and they still get too sell a bunch of cars over here.
