Faux rust
Debates continue to rage over the validity of the rat look. While it is unquestionably cool to drive a car that looks knackered and rusty but hides massive power within it's crumbly engine bay, you obviously can't knock every car a couple of rungs up the coolness ladder simply because it suffers from the tinworm. As modifiers increasingly make attempts to replicate rat look (Nitromors on the bonnet, saltwater on the arches, stuffing ripped from seats...) we see two distinct camps of people - people who think it's cool and people who think it's not proper rat, and thus is stupid. It's just down to personal interpretation. On a purely technical level, though, you can't help but be impressed by the skills of the guy who painted this Beetle. Yes, the photos are in the right order - it's a clean and solid Beetle shell that's been painted to look as if it's rusty. The rat look is an amazing display of technique, but it's totally not for me. Props to those who do it, though, I consider that ART.
