electronic gas pedal dead spot

Have an 07 Yaris 5 spd. there is a dead spot in the first 1/4 to 1/2 inch of pedal travel. Dealer says this is normal! Have never seen anything like this before, the car is actually dangerous to drive. Has anyone else experienced this?

So from 0 to 1/4 inch does it give gas? I have to push maybe a 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch for it to get gas. I think this is to keep people who leave their foot on the gas all the time from wasting gas. But if it gives you gas before 1/4 inch, and then stops for 1/4 inch, and then starts again, that is a problem.

This is the first I'm hearing of this. I'll look-out for it

BTW I didn't know the Yaris was available in '97 lol

dead pedal

it is dead for the first 1/4 to 1/2 inch only. everything else works fine. It doesn't take a second to respond being electronic, this actually makes it faster and provides more constant speed control. I was wanting to know if others are having this problem and if there is a remedy?

It's just a Yaris characteristic. There's a slight movement of the pedal before the controller responds. When the throttle's off for ~1/2 second and the car's coasting with the engine above a minimum RPM, the fuel cuts off completely, to minimize exhaust emissions and fuel consumption. That's the DFCO, Deceleration Fuel Cut Off. There's no fuel burned and no emissions while it's doing that. You'll feel a slight surge as it switches between the drag of no-fuel coasting and power just above idle when you're cruising along under very light throttle conditions. Get used to it.

I know the throttle is drive by wire but the lag is the most lame minded feature I have ever seen in any vehicle. Yaris gas models should not be sold with a standard transmission. Try teaching a new driver in this thing! Very stupid for Toyota to put something like this out.

There are some mods that can be done to improve the throttle response, like better ground wiring and NST pulleys. You may get use to it, like others as well.

Are you sure it just isn't pedal play? Every car has some pedal play. Allows for tolerances in the pedal, so nothing is sitting at limit.

Nearly ever car I've had, the instruction manual requires testing of the pedals, to check for that play. If you don't have that play, or have too much play its no bueno.

Had no idea that all newer vehicles with etc had throttle lag. But the good news is that there are add on parts to over come the problem, so I'll go with that. Claims of throttle lag time reduced by 50%!!!!!!!! Appreciate all the input thx so much

sprint booster is cheaper..although its not adjustable compare to blitz.

still the problem with these product is that it does not make ur car faster.. 0-60 is the same- no increase in hp but it will feel faster.. just cause of this quote by sprint booster i didnt go for it.. go figure try it let us know..
