I'll bet. This will basically commit a street car to track only, though. I have to give up my music system and "fun drives". And I don't have a trailer yet. I'm still on the fence.

I would not do it to a street driven car. It is a truly miserable experience even on the shortest of trips.

Being able to pull the parts out of the sedan that was getting crushed is making it easier. I just have to weld up a top mount for the heim joint closest to the steering wheel.

What a weekend... Freezing temps, burned up tires, contact, great racing.

After the mad thrash to get the OS Giken LSD installed we made it to Willow Springs for the SCCA Double National. Seven cars were registered in H Prod, but only five ran each day. Apparently the threat of nasty weather on Sat kept some of the topless cars away.

This was also our first race using the 13" Goodyear slick mounted on our new Jongbloed Racing wheels. This combo drops about 30lbs of unsprung and rotating mass from the car, and the tires are 3" smaller diameter, which really helps the gearing.

I got the Pole on Sat, and a great start in the race. The Yaris is a completely different animal with the new diff and tires. No more one-leggin coming off of turns, hit the gas and it just pulls. The car also no longer feels like it is going to tip over, thanks to the shorter tires, and the gearing advantage the tires give really makes it accelerate.

Unfortunately, as we thought might be the case the much shorter tire is more heat sensitive than the monster 15"s we were running. About midway in the race the front tires started to give up, and as the last few laps were winding down I could hardly keep it on the track. At the stripe Gary Wittman took the win in his Austin Healey Sprite, I held on for second.

I killed a brand new tire in one day.

For the Sun race I changed to a harder compound Goodyear on the front of the car. Once again I qualified on the Pole. This turned into one of the best races I have had. Wittman and I swapped the lead something like eight times. At about half way Wittman and I entered Turn 1 side by side (a 90 degree left hand sweeper that is taken around 90mph) and made light contact, I got pushed a little wide and put two in the dirt. I kept my foot in it and stayed on him. Luckily the contact was mostly tire to tire, leaving him with a black stripe and me with a yellow sidewall.

The harder compound tire stood up much better, and only started to fade at the very end - Goodyear still has one harder compound we can try next time. It was a very close race but Wittman had just a little more left than me at the end, after a 30 min race we were just over 1 sec apart at the finish, with Wittman first and me second.

Even though we did not win, we are very happy with the changes to the car, it certainly faster and way more comfortable to drive at the limit. This makes four poles, two wins and two seconds so far, and we are leading the Divisional points again.

This event marked the one year anniversary since our Yaris hit the track. In 2010 we lapped Willow Springs at a 1:41.7, now a 1:36.9. Progress.

Looks like you might need to play with camber for the new tires. I can't tell if that's the inside or outside?

Yeah, we still have the 15" setup on the car, they liked -.8. That is the inside of the tire. It seems like the 13"s will use a little less camber, but the outside of the tire was not far behind.

That's great news!

Can you share what exact tire you are using? I want to get some road race tires for my 13s at some point.

The tires are the Goodyear Eagle Sports Car Special, 20.0x9.5-13. They are cantilever slicks, so they are designed to work on small wheels, in this case a 7" wide wheel. They are bias ply, so they need very little -camber, .5 to 1 is the range for most cars.
