Gulf States Tire Warranty Rip Off
In '06 I was forced to pay $349 for a 6 year/100K mile tire wear warranty. They said they could not remove it from the sticker and I would have to buy it no matter what. Well, I have 55K miles on my tires and it may be 10K miles away from replacement. Gulf States requires the tires to be down to 1/32's inch of tread. Most states won't give you an inspection sticker with that little tread if you are following the program requirements.
If you have it you know you have to rotate your tires every 5K miles. In '06 that was $14.95. My most recent rotation was $25.00!! That's ELEVEN rotations and I still have a while to go! Look at the money I have already spent: $349+nearly $250 in rotations! I asked the lube guy about the warranty and he said I have to bring in all my receipts. I said I probably don't have all of them and asked him to print off the ones I don't have. He replied: "We switched to a new system and I may not be able to do that." That's saying I'm screwed! I've heard this tire program became so volatile that they no longer do it. Plus, the dealer is not going to help you claim it, either. Gray Daniels Toy of Brandon, Miss. sucks. Gulf States Toy sucks. |

Go find a parking lot and spin some donuts. Check tread depth, repeat until you are down to 1/32 |

The entire tire warranty system is a sham. Its almost impossible to get your warranty if your tires wear out for whatever the shop that puts them on says the warranty is for. You have to provide recipes for every single tire rotation you have done according to your warranty guidelines as well as annual wheel alignments. If not done through their store. So guess what by the time your done you paid for the new set already and thats what they are counting on.
Also this warranty isnt provided by the manufacture its provided by the shop. They may go oh this tire comes with a 50k warranty while this comes with a 80k. When in reality the 50k tire may last you only 40k and yet the 80k tire may last you only 20k. Its not some special rating system on how long the tire will actually last. If you want to know you go by the treadwear rating at least that will give you some general idea. The only good warranty i know of is in my area where wheel works sells with their tires called tire protection plan i think for like 5 bucks more for a tire it covers the entire tire incase of any incident. If someone slashes your tire its free. If you drive over a nail and its no repairable its free. I used to work at wheel works years ago and people would take advantage of it. One customer as his tires near bald he just happened to get a nail puncture in the sidewall of his tire every single month till all 4 tires were replaced. Coincidence?

The point is Gulf States, not the local dealer, put it on the sticker. It is specifically for tire wear and they say "you'll at least get one set of tires free". Plus, you cannot take it off because the importer/distributor charged the local dealer for it!
But, the fact that the dealer didn't want to help with trying to make a claim is pretty damning. Those of you who acted as if this was nonsense obviously live in areas where your importer/distributor doesn't do this. Gulf States stopped. I think if the Mafia ran the car business customer service would be better. |
