TSB #0344-08

Twice in the last two weeks my car has shut down. Engine light came on and the scan codes were P0121 and P0223. My car has 45,000 miles and the diagonostic check found failure in the engine wire harness. With-out any fight Toyota is installing all new parts at no charge. They told me if I had to pay it would be $800. They also told me this is becoming a big problem, thats why it is being done at no charge. Just thought i would share the info!

you are receiving an upgraded engine wiring harness... that is why it would be some money...

here is the list of DTC's that are related to this

• P0101 – Mass Air Flow Circuit Range / Performance Problem
• P0102 – Mass Air Flow Circuit Low Input
• P0103 – Mass Air Flow Circuit High Input
• P0121 – Throttle / Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "A" Circuit Range/Performance Problem
• P0125 – Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Closed Loop Fuel Control
• P0172 – System Too Rich
• P035# – Ignition Coil “#” Primary / Secondary Circuit
• P2237 – Oxygen (A/F) Sensor Pumping Current Circuit / Open
• P2238 – Oxygen (A/F) Sensor Pumping Current Circuit Low

Actually, there is an extremely minute chance of the pillar insulation foam catching fire from the seatbelt pretensioner. So far only 1 or 2 yaris have caught fire from this, but the seat belts work fine. Also, there are already a million threads on this.

And about the pillar recall, you can do that yourself if you dont wanna take it in, there is a DIY floating here somewhere I think I saw.

That harness has the wires that operate the electronic throttle body, thus Drive By Wire (DBW).
See??

Hi Guys,
I own a Toyota Yaris 2007 Sedan (very nice condition...I though) with 48k miles.* "check engine" light goes on and off, and the engine suddently shuts down at least twice everytime I drive it.* I was told by a certfified dealer that I have to replace the wiring harness because quite a few codes (including P0102) are being reported by the car but the dealer, the "bumper to bumper" warranty company, and Toyota refuse to take any responsability.* I have seen at least two similar cases reported in this forum.* I am considering taking legal action.* Any suggestions?*

tell them you know it is a known defect and provide them with the TSB number:

TSB #0344-08

Then see how they react.

Any other luck with this?

Hey all, I stumbled upon this thread due to similar problems with a Yaris I just bought used (private party), hatchback ~55k miles. Issue is low coolant signal, error code P0125, and I looked at the TSB and I fit the bill exactly (VIN number within range, error code solo, etc.)

Otherwise loving the Yaris, but this issue bugs me. Seems like some have had luck getting it replaced no charge, and others not. Any more success stories? Any idea of what is actually wrong with the harness? Maybe it's just a bad connector or something that can be fixed yourself?

CAB, did you have any luck when you told them about the TSB?

Calling around to the dealers to see what they say. I find it strange this is not really a recall?

Luckily my car is not shutting down or anything (right now), but makes me question the validity of the over-temp light as well. Calls into question a number of engine related stuff.

p0125, not sure what else to do.

Hey guys. I've had a 2008 Yaris brand new for seven years and have had no issues until recently. I've had the low engine temp light come on and the engine sounds like it's reving up after the car has been on for 30 minutes or longer. I've had the Mast air flow sensor changed, the water temp sensor changed(twice) and the Thermostat changed (twice as well). I've taken my car for a recall, nothing to do with the current issue, I informed the dealer they checked it out and said I needed a new water temp sensor so I bought it right from them and had it installed elsewhere(second time installed). I really don't understand the car lingo but what I'm getting is that I may have to change the engine wire harness? and that sounds expensive. A little explanation would be appreciated when possible. Thanks.
