fuel consumption calculations jumping up and down...
Hi everyone.
I have a Toyota Yaris Terra The fuel consumption calculation on the small display where the clock is ticking displays funny values. Sometimes it displays 4.6L/100KM and then suddenly 9.2L/100KM. The actual MPG are not effected. Just the readings are jumping up and down very quickly. Any help with understanding what is happening and what is the cure. |

We don't have digital displays or mileage displays in the US, but what you're probably seeing is called instantaneous mpg. At any given second your fuel consumption can be very different. High rpms and wide open throttle takes a lot more gas per mile than cruising in neutral - if your car has DFCO, like the US yaris, you would see it jump to 0L/100KM or 999 mpg, because the car is moving and using 0 fuel.

It's completely normal. All you have to do is to let off or press the throttle just a little to dramatically change the mileage at any given instant.
