Automatic headlight modification to add taillights
Although I am new to this forum I really did try to search for this answer before posting. Perhaps someone knows where to find it, if it even exists. By far my biggest (and "nearly" only) gripe with my Yaris is about the tail lights not coming on when the headlights come on automatically. I believe there are reasons for everything, but this feature I just can't seem to get my head around. Surely someone must have engineered a modification to correct this nuisance by now, and if not, is anyone up for the challenge? This is an especially a bad feature if you happen to be out driving anywhere near the time of night that the bars close and were tricked into the false sense of security that all of your lights were on! |

I assume you mean your daytime running lights? They come on automatically when you drive.

Theoretically jumping the light blue wire on the DRL module's connector to pin 13 (white wire) of the headlight stalk's connector would do the trick. Doing this will feed the same pulsed ground to the taillights that is fed to the headlights when the DRLs are on. Like the headlights, they will be on, but not at full brightness.

Pulsed ground to...
Sounds like exactly the solution I was looking for, thanks! I'm assuming you are referring to jumping pin 13 to pin 8?

OK Thanks... Don't know my way around the car like it sounds like you do. I will need to search and figure out what and where the DRL module is. Actually doing the wiring is no problem for me, once I find everything.
