Spark Plug Gap
For you boosted guys, I see that Denso makes the IK22 with a .031 gap.
I can get the brk7eix-11 that come gapped to the yaris spec'd .044. Is there any problem running the Denso? Reason I ask is because I have found a source for the IK22's for the same price as the NGK's. Thanks! |

^ Just make sure you are running the proper heat range.
Mine are gapped to .028, gap depends on the tune, boost etc.

Well, my application is blitz sc only.
So Heat Range 7 is what I gathered from here. I just need to know if the stock gap should be used or if the IK22 gap is ok. So you are saying the smaller the gap for the more boosted and tuned you are? Thanks! Last edited by sleey0; 09-21-2010 at 01:11 AM. |

I just know my car likes it that way. I can't really explain the science, but I'm sure my tuner could.

IK22 are the correct heat range. The 22 = a 7 heat range. Yes you can run the Denso, there will be no problems. As for the gap, Insufficient spark plug gap can cause pre-ignition, detonation, even engine damage. Too much gap can result in a higher rate of misfires, noticeable loss of power, plug fouling, and poor economy. With that being said first thing to do before you install the plugs is to check the gap to make sure its correct. BTW are you boosted?

The reason spark plug work better with a small gap under high boost is because it is harder to spark the spark plug with a big gap under high boost but under n/a it's easier to spark with a big gap

cdy - I am not yet boosted but I am getting my ducks in a row, so-to-speak. I want to make sure I have everything I need before hand. I have been told many times that ppl around here thought they had everything and then they needed something at the last minute. I am doing the best I can at covering all my bases.
1.5ty - Thank you for that info! Thanks, guys. I will go ahead and order the IK22's. Last question. Are the 1ZZ injectors the max recommended? Or can I find ones with a little bit more cc/hr? Thanks to all. VERY helpful and I love this forum:D |

I drove around for 1000's of miles with the stock plugs without any issues. The 1ZZ's injector are 240cc/22.85lb injectors & in my car with 4-5lbs of boost ran very rich. Larger than the 1ZZ's are not necessary for a stock engine with low boost....
