MPG Apps/Websites
Hi! Ive been tracking the mileage on all of my vehicles for years the old fashioned way (ODO/by fuel in) but I havent owned anything "new" enough to consider long term tracking of MPG. Being a new Yaris owner Im interested in creating a long term digital log. Just curious as to which apps (eg. Gas Cubby, Car Minder Plus...) AND OR websites you guys are using to track your MPG and what kind of results you are having?

2 of the most popular on line sites for tracking are
http://www.gassavers.org/ and http://www.fuelly.com/ Fuelly is more user friendly I think and I update both but gassavers.org is in my signature. Gassavers is accurate to the 1/100 mpg where fuelly rounds up or down |

Yeah, I was looking at both of those. I agree, the fuelly interface is a bit better.

Once it's set up, both are easy, just getting Gassavers set up is sticky. I like the accuracy of GS better. Funny thing both have the same fuel ups, look at the difference in average. I gotta go back and look at the two, I must have forgotten one some where

I believe your Gassavers banner is displaying your avg for the last 90 days, like mine does. Check your Gassaver's page and check your banner against your last 90 day avg to be sure. Yep, I just checked it for you-the Gassavers is the last 90 days.

This is an old thread, but I use Torque on Android w/elm 327 bluetooth adapter. I really like how it gives me real time MPG and avg per trip. Helps you realize what you are doing to hamper your MPG so you can make small adjustments for big improvements.

I know it sounds simplistic, and I'm sure you've checked, but could one be calculating US gallons and the other other UK gallons? I like the lack of ambiguity of litres/100km or better still km/L, though not massively useful if you live in a world of bushels and ducats ;-)

I like the data logging feature on the torque app for android. It uses a Bluetooth obd2 device that connects to the phone.

So far Ive been happy with Fuelly. Mainly because of the text feature. Its cool to be able to text in my mileage/price of gas and gallons used and have it update on the site instantly as well as send my avg mpg to my phone. I always do my own calculation first but its usually right on.

build your own
OK I never post but the idea of tracking things is one of my personal favorites.
I say build your own. I built an excel spread sheet on my phone. My phone like most will automatically upload to a website so the data is safe. I actually built mine the day I puchased the yaris from the dealer so I have ALL the data. I can tell you how much I have spent on taxes (16% of expendatures to date). I can tell you after 14K I'm at 50 cents per mile with a gas cost per mile of 8.2 cents. A milage of 36.8 ( I like to drive fast) with a standard deviation of 2.4. I'm reimbursed when I drive for work so I can say 66% of my costs have been reimbursed. And don't get me started on the pie charts! |

Besides Fuelly and GasSavers I also participate in an ongoing survey at http://www.truedelta.com. They use the info to supply reliability data to other organizations. If you supply them info on your car you get access to the whole site. I have every fill up, car wash, oil change and accessory purchase there. Never had to list a problem yet .
