Tachometer
Hi I have a 09 yaris hatchback 5spd and I hate the fact that it dosent have a standard tachometer. I want to buy a digital tachometer but I dont want to buy those big 5" tachometer. I want something that is small and digital that can display the rpm's. Anyone that has a 5pd yaris without a tach, what are you guys using?? Thanks for your replies

I don't know if anyone has installed a digital tach, but there are plenty of examples of analog tachs in the DIY forum - just go there and search for Tach.

yea.. This has been addressed many times.
Do an Advanced search and look up key words: tach, tachometer, rpm guage I think this post says it best: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...ach+tachometer |

there are literally thousands of options for tachs. The easiest way is to go to a local racing shop and just ask, they have books full of them.

one thing about the digital tach is the refresh rate. I used an ultragauge for a while but the refresh rate on it sucked. that is a big reason for the analog tach. I went with a 3 3/4" one just so I could see it easily. it reacts quickly so you know what the motor is doing.
here is a thread I started. http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34360 within it is also a how to on how to put one in yourself. there are a million options. find one that meets your needs (and budget). take your time and make it look clean, all is good. |

I think the ultraguage is not a good reason not to get a digital.. remember, the LF-A uses a digital tach because the analog is too slow to catch up with the engines rpm's. If you dont go cheap and get a really good digital tach, I think it would work better.
But lets be real, what yaris out there is going to going to have a engine that responds that fast to throttle. lol |

Autometer makes very nice digital tachs. I had one in my tC, got very used to it.

maybe it is personal preference. if digital is the way you want to go, there are plenty of them out there too. you can easily install one on your yaris. took me about 2 hours (mostly because I am a bit anal). I went ahead and tried to make it pretty at the same time.
it really isn't hard to do. and yea, my yaris doesn't rev near fast enough to outrun the analog tach. lol |

I went with an ecometer-plug in to the OBD 2 port and mount it. Done. Digital tach. Refresh rate is 2x a second. Been good enough for me but it depends on how fancy/precise you want to get. MI has them for about $60 I think.

HA, thanks. I just took an Autometer gauge I bought, cut everything off of it, leaving just the circuit board assembly and needle. Found a piece of PVC that I used as a new case. Then built the front panel from acrylic. I think anyone that's messed around with plastics before could do it. It just took time and patience to get it to fit right.
