^^Tbh I have at times downshifted to the 1,2 and 3 gears in my auto sedan, and that did make the car funner to drive. I stopped doing that though, as from what I understand that can't be good for the longevity of the transmission.

So I guess in that respect, I can appreciate that this little 1.5 can be more beastly in a manual, but I just wouldn't be able to stand using my left foot on a clutch in bumper to bumper traffic, and in a city like Chicago with a bajillion stop signs and stoplights. Not worth it to me.

It is really a matter of personal preference as many of here mentioned. Go with what you really think it is best for your needs and how you will drive your car on an everyday basis. To me personally I always love driving manual tranny coz I get bored a lot driving automatics.

Manual...this is coming from somebody who routinely spends 5+ hours in LA traffic.

I prefer manuals myself but the only Yaris I've ever driven was a test drive about a month ago in a new 3 door hatch with the auto tranny.I will say though only a 4 speed it functioned a good bit better than the Ford Fiesta's sedan 5 speed auto I test drove yesterday with acceleration between the two to close to call. Not bad considering if the figures are right the Yaris has less hp/torque.

I had a sedan and now I have a lb - both manual. Drove an auto and didn't like it. But, I won't own a manual anything if someone gave it to me .... so it's a personal preference, I guess. And I was constantly in traffic - that has never once made a difference for me.

Manual FTW. I like having TOTAL control of the car. Plus better acceleration and better MPG from my experience. Driving in traffic will suck though, but on open and windy roads it's fun as hell!

Automatics are only a real necessity if the driver has some kind of physical disability IMO (i.e. a bad arm that can't shift while the other one holds the wheel, and/or a bad left foot that can't deal with a clutch pedal).

Just depends on your situation.

Bernie, I've previously owned cars that didn't have power-steering. It still wouldn't be a problem
