Sheesh thats scary! Got 94K miles on all my 07 Yaris and no problems with anything but the accessory belt itself, Replaced it myself and HOPEFULLY did not over tighten it. Also replaced the same belt on my parents 2006 Toyota Corolla.

Worry not. Its faulty parts not handfisted home mechanics.

Clean the hood: Good Idea!

Just found this out yesterday. Dealer is blissfully ignorant.

The splash isnt a whole lot and Ive heard it said this leaking can be an intermittent thing.

So Im in wait and see mode for now.

I decided to bring the car to the dealer to have the wp replaced. Warranty issue. Will drop it off tonite, have them replace it tomorrow, and ride my motorcycle to work.

Then its wait for it to leak again and research aftermarket wp s in the meantime to see if they are better or not.

my 07 sedan has the spray on the underside of the hood from when i bought it at around 60k miles. it now has about 72k and the coolant level is still holding. i think it does spray intermittantly (sp?). i plan on running it until it starts making noises or leaking noticibly.

Yeah thats my suspicision also. This possibly could be an intermittant thing.

But if it fails in the middle of winter or on a trip that would be an inconvience I would not want to deal with.

Got my car back from the dealer and the water pump is replaced free of charge. But guess what? The car isnt making that little squeeky noise anymore! I noticed it a month or two after I bought it new. It happened infrequently but I KNEW I heard something. Its the kind of noise you tell other people when they have one: Just drive the car and dont worry about it.

It did happen more and more to the point that on the Alaska trip I heard it constantly.

So whatever is causing these waterpumps to fail, in my car, came right fromt the factory.

My first pump lasted 30K. Second OEM unit spritzed a bit after 1,200 miles. It's been periodicly spraying for 10k and I'm at 40,000mi. now. Debating if I want to roll the bones and leave it. I have an AC Delco pump on deck ready at a moments notice!

Had the same squeal on my xD and was able to pinpoint it to the water pump. TSB for coolant leak and abnormal noise. Part number change from original.
