This is coming from someone that still hasn't put a lot of skill points into automotive work, but could you swap the ignition switch for one from an 09?

No. The engine immobilizer is a function of the ECM (it needs to see a response from the transponder in the key to allow the engine to start), so you really can't change the keyswitch without changing the ECM as well.

you could also get a duplicate key made
regular metal non immobilizer remove the pickup ring and relocate and tape (if you still have the valet) immobilizer key to it and tuck in column cover i removed the chip from my valet and siliconed it to the ring $6 metal key compared to $60 for original

That is a sweet idea. But way too advanced for me, I don't take risks with stuff like that because I don't want to mess something up and not be able to fix it :)

If it's not broke, fix it until it is broke :)
There are still a bunch of pieces of my interior in my closet somewhere that haven't been on in nearly a year because I'm always dinkering around with the wiring in my car.
