Why Mobil Super S 10W-40???
Hi Guys,
I asked my dealer to replace my engine oil @1,000 km and they used Mobil Super S 10W-40. Does anybody know why they might have used this grade of motor oil? |

They most likely used that oil becuase they had nothing else to put in your car... The manual states you should use 5w30, but there is a TSB from Toyota for something to do with gas mileage to use 5w20 or 0w20
I would bitch up a storm if someone EVER put 10w40 in ANY of my cars, because there goes your gas mileage, and it is to thick to properly oil your engine For your infomation most diesel's take 10w40 or 15w40, that shit is thick

5w 30 in the winter months (november thru march)
average temp 0 F to 59 F 10w 30 in summer months (april thru october) average temp 60 F to 99 F gee 10w 40 would probably glue the lifters to the seats unless it was 110 degrees year round Last edited by AaronATL; 02-21-2007 at 08:53 PM. |

wow...thats thick oil for these little engines...mobil is a good brand of oil, but personally I would take the car back to them and ask why they put that thick of oil into a car that is supposed to take 5w30...it says it on the oil cap, it says it on thier referance charts, and it says it in the owners manual.

Too thick oil is only useful if you want to stop it leaking out.
I used to put 20/50 into my VW coz it was the only oil that would stay in there.... Sad, really |

Take your car back to the dealer, find out who said to use that oil, slap that fool in the face, kick him in the knee, and then, only then, demand another free oil change with the correct weight oil.
Somebody show me this recommendation to use 5w-20 or 0W-20 for increased mileage. It's not that I don't believe you, I just want to see it myself. |
