Question Need help with sub/amp setup

I gotta 12 inch sub that has:
200 watt RMS
400 watt peak
Single 4 ohm Voice coil

It's gonna be in a sealed box also. My issue is how big of a amp will I need? Lookin for something that'll work w/o blow up lol

You could tell us what brand/model it is. That would be helpful.

What size sealed box you going with?

You could go with this one, but you can't crank the gain.
It makes a little more power.

I don't recommend BOSS, SSL, JENSEN, HiTron, Power Acoustik, etc.

Cheap amps tend to run hot and they don't last. They also produce dirty power.

Class D is nice for subs, and those amps are all a little over $100.

Buy a Boss or SSL for $70. Nothing stopping you. It should technically "work".
But most people on here won't recommend it.

So here ya go, if this is what you want:

any brand that says output of 200rms @4ohms and you'll be fine and i'd say happy with.

if u don't want to put the volume button up to full on the amp. get a 300wrms @4ohm amp.

if u get a 2ohm or a 1ohm @200rms amp, it won't sound as clear. as the sub is for 4ohm.

i've got 2x 4ohm subs. but if i run both off the same amp at 2ohm it gets louder. but not as clear... if that helps u

just don't turn up the subsonic bass knob, that's IMO the thing that blows subs

had one for over a yr and still works with rough install

Don't ever use the Gain/Level knob on an amp as a Volume. When i get to a computer later on i'll post some info Qmobile. Alot of the feedback you have received is False.

Here's an ok amp with room to grow. Would i buy it. No because i can get about Tripple the Power for that price. I wouldn't recommend the amp i use because it isn't efficient for a newbie (no offense). The amp kit you'll need will cost about 60 bucks. Upgrade your battery. Big 3. So you're looking at about an additional 200 bucks.

So to be efficient on your battery i'd stick with the Best Buy brands. Which is "okay". Kenwood , Fosgate , Alpine, Pioneer.

Amp is Probably about 15 years old ? MEI hasn't been around for a while.

Amp probably does 75 watts RMS

15 bucks at the most for that amp. Same category as Jensen or Boss.

Hey Seven,
He doesn't have to do the big3 upgrade. He's runnning a low power system.

He asked what is the minimum power he needs for that sub he has.
I would say 150watts RMS at 4ohms.

An 8ga amp wire kit will work fine for that.
