I also have a magnetic drain plug, no metal flakes on it when I change my oil.

yea, but things like efficiency are affected. And when you are paying 50¢ a gallon it really doesn't matter, but when you are paying $3.50, 5 mpg can make a difference. And i am sure that person who didn't change the oil didn't change any other fluid either, and that can also kill gas mileage.

Question..I used to have an s10 truck. The 2 wheel drive called for a pf41 filter and the 4 wheel drive called for a pf51 filter which was a much longer filter. I started using the longer filter on my 2 wheel drive truck thinking more filter capacity is better. Is there a longer version of the 103 filter for the Yaris?
I believe the Corolla filter is longer and fits perfectly, or it could be the matrix. if you search the forums, their was a member that bought them by the box from the dealer.

for me, local mechanics are charging dirt cheap for oil changes. $16 for everything for a synthetic oil change.

Wow, that is really cheap. I can get one for $14.95, but not with synthetic oil.

Every so often someone fires up this type of thread again and I chuckle cause they are so fun to read. I changed over to AMSOIL a few years back and became an AMSOIL dealer going on a year and a half. I change my oil once every 10-12k as Kaotic does.

I have all lubricants now AMSOIL. I really noticed a nice difference with engine temps when I changed to their coolant and I really like how my tranny as well as my brakes feels with their fluids. Overall a great product line in my book. I think that I did take pictures of the top/bottom ends of my first motor when it blew and they both looked super clean. I ran AMSOIL for about 20k prior to the blown pistons. Before that I ran both Royal Purple and also Mobil1. Personally I preferred the Royal Purple over the Mobil1, but for some reason when I ran RP the engine temps seemed to be a bit higher.

People can say what they want, but actually I believe in the product so much that I still have my racing oil in the motor right now in Northern Maine temps. I plan on changing it again here shortly and am thinking about sending it off for an analysis. I have almost 10k on it. Usually I would run their SAE 5W-30 Signature Series and only change to the racing oil for the land speed weekends. I never ran 5-20 nor 0-20, but that is just me.

So now you have voided out any warranty you had left or you were already out of warranty...correct?
Using AMSOIL at the drain intervals they gaurantee DOES NOT void any manufacturer warranties.

Either way why in the hell would you worry about having a Yaris warranty? It is just about impossible to mess up this 1nz-fe powerplant unless you do performance changes that push it past the threshold it can handle. I could understand if it were an upper end Camry, Camry Hybrid, Landcruiser, truck, Avalon, etc.

Amsoil's intervals are 25k miles or one year, which ever comes first. You retain your warranty as long as you don't have engine modifications on your car. I believe Amsoil will pay for any damages if you're within your warranty period.

I agree with fnkngrv re why would anybody worry about the engine warranty on a Yaris. The only way I can imagine frying the engine (stock) within the warranty period would be if you changed the oil and forgot to secure the drain plug. See post #49. The quote is bairjo's response to fnkngrv, not a post from fnkngrv.

Of every Toyota I have ever owned....and its been 6 so far....I never had any mechanical issue and never had to use the warrant. My 2011 Van had the windshield crack the day after delivery and was fixed under warranty, but that has been it.

Except for the breakin oil, you can go 10k+ with confidence! Especially if you are using synthetic.....and i am sure some Moose brain will chime in about that.
