I hope, as several people have indicated might be the case, that many of those styling cues are limited to the Chinese market. If not, I'll make sure that my replacement is a new 3rd Gen at the end of that run.

Exactly! That's why I added the Fiesta and the Focus to the Matrix in my comment.

Vios hatch???

C'mon Toyota, this model overlap and name confusion is getting a bit out of hand.

Having totally different lineups in every country can't be all that efficient. I know Toyota makes more money than any other automaker, but it would be better if streamlined.

Yeh the back is really ugly. Thing is Toyota started to streamline in the last 10 yrs, now they seem to be starting up this nonsense again.

One of the things I like most about the USDM, etc. 3rd Gen 5-door hatch is that that small second window (that is easier to break than a larger one) was eliminated from the rear passenger doors. This puts a small window right back in the mix. Idiotic.

That taillight just looks like the designer fell asleep and slipped while designing and said, "F it, keeping it."

Those vehicles above: possibly a Chinese market vehicle? I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Me? I'm not a huge fan of the Vios sedan, personally. Just my two cents.

And as far as the four-speed gearbox thing goes, I don't really get the big deal. Yaris still gets mileage that is on par with its competition. Plus, using a "parts bin" transmission allows Toyota to keep costs down, not to mention it's proven technology.

The Yaris is still competitive with regards to performance among the segment. So why does it need another gear if it's fuel economy and performance are at the levels of other cars with five- and six-speed automatics?

It doesn't need it. It's just marketing(imo).

Me too. One of the reasons that post made me laugh was that it echoed part of my first impression.

I like the interior of the new sedan. Like some others said, the sedan is a lot more common around here than the hatch, but both are fairly prominent. It's rare I go a day without seeing at least 2 Yarii on the road.

I just don't like how newer cars look in general. To me it's just like every auto maker out there is making the same car. I miss the 90s/early 00s when there was a pretty wide variance in how vehicles looked. All the USDM muscle car things might as well be the same car, and every sedan/hatch anyone makes might as well be the same car. What happened to unique styling?
