Please help
Hi Im new to the forum. Name is Nik
lately I have been increasingly interested in a yaris on craigslist. roughly 120k has legit papers on all maintenance except a alternator he did himself. Its the 3 door 5 speed and I have talked him down from 6150 to 5000. car has light paint chips on the hood and front bumper but that would be easy for me (myself) to touch up. But my concern is the rear quarter panels have a quarter size dent on the driver side and a dollar size one on the passenger, perfectly on the crease of the fender. - should i still pull the trigger on this deal? -what are my options for the rear quarter fenders? -can the fenders be replaced entirely without welding -or is repairing them the best option? http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...cid=productads This is the vehicle and I can paint well but would have to pay for any bodywork.

I personally would prefer to buy a car from someone who maintained it themselves. The price is about typical for what I have seen for used ones in that mileage range. For the dents, you might want to try one of the dent doctor services where they pull the dents without painting being required. The rear fenders are welded, so replacement is a big job.

Thank you for the info and quick responce.
I may get it ran by a body shop for a quote before I purchase it. overall it seems like a very dependable vehicle.

They definitely are dependable. If the body shop says it will be expensive to repair, then get a written quote and go back to the seller with that as leverage for a better price.

you don't necessarily want to go to the body shop, as they can charge a ton. It looks like this 1-800-946-3368 http://www.dentdoctorusa.com/ is the number to call. The body shop will call them anyways, and just charge you double.
But you can def use an estimate from a body shop for negotiating purposes, like CTSCOTT mentioned.

Nice little car but with a 5 year old 120K mileage $5000 Yaris are these dings really worth investing large amounts of money to get rid of them?Paint em black and no one will ever know they are there.

I agree with WHY? - go with one of those dent doctor places, a legitimate place that does hailstone-type repairs, not one that comes into town only when there's hail damage. I had over $1000 worth of hail damage to my car last April....the guy who fixed all my dents does work for all the local car dealers too (the car dealers don't fix all those dents themselves). They won't charge much for only 2 dents.

You make a good choice. These cars....with proper maintenance will last over 300k miles. Just use a good oil and change it on a regular basis and you will see your $5k investment last a long, long time! By the by....you are from Omaha? I used to live in Bellevue....many moons ago....and went to UNO back in the early 80s. Great town!

I also agree with Jambo. Sadly, I don't have much faith re how much respect a majority (not all, but a majority) of people in our society have toward other people's property (especially in parking lots)...and that is a factor in my decision to only purchase relatively inexpensive cars.

5k ≠15k.
It is really that simple.
