ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII Scanner thing
Hello everyone,
I would like to get your experiences on the ELM327 OBDII scanners. I just bought a couple (yes the cheap ebay clone ones, but seller assures that they are good quality and work well) . I am having some trouble pairing it up to my Vitz. I have the Torque pro app and some Scantool app on my computer. Now they both detect the adapter with no problem, but I cannot get any information from the ECU. There's not much information on the web about these adapters so I checked here and some of you have experience with these. I saw a video on youtube of someone who used this with their Yaris and it was working quite well. So, my problem is that I cant read anything from the ECU. The app and bluetooth connection seems fine, but I can't get any readings (RPM, speed etc). Any suggestions on what I should try with settings or anything else ? I am really keen to get this to work. Also if the adapters are faulty I want to return them then. I've got a 2005 Vitz RS 1.5 JDM spec. Thanks. here's that link for youtube video: http://youtu.be/Ev1J5ugnG5c |

I heard on here that Japanese market cars use a different OBD standard, not OBDII.

Japanese Toyotas use M-OBD, rather than OBDII.
The off-the-shelf apps won't work, but the ELM should actually work if commanded properly. Do you have a Windows based laptop that you can connect to the ELM, where I can either send you a custom app, or walk you through some special commands via Hyperterminal to do some testing? I have actually been wanting to get access to an M-OBD car to test some theories for a device that I have developed.

Elm 327
I have an ELM327 and it works great using the Iphone with the application fuzzycar. Sometimes you just have to restart the programs several times to get it to connect.

You have a US car, which is OBDII compliant. The OP does not.

At this point the best option is the Toyota Techstream system, but that is USB and requires a PC to run the software.

I too was disappointed to learn that my Jdm Vitz RS used M-OBD. I also purchased the elm327 on ebay.
CTscott I can be the test person if u want. |

I also purchased one, although on amazon. Wish it read more sensors, but it does the trick for me. I use it with torque app.
No issues with connectivity on my '07 Sedan. Remember to remove the adapter every time you turn your car off though, drained my battery overnight! |

Guys, I've discovered an android apps that talks to JDM toyota using ELM327
Its called hobdrive Its bloody expensive and its very user UNfriendly. The demo is free and may give you some basic idea of how it is to use. |

Is Toyota Techstream system compatible with M-OBD? If I am not wrong, it support OBDII protocol the same as elm327

Techstream supports a few Toyota specific protocols as well as M-OBD and OBDII.

Just an update guys, I may have cracked getting Torque(pro) to work with our JDM Vitz. So far I have managed to get it to successfully connect, but its not getting any real time readings. I will be trying out a few more things. Hang tight

Try this. This code in the vehicle profile allowed torque pro to read data from most of the sensors in the ECU via an ELM327 reader.

I managed to get this other shitty app hOBDrive demo to get some readings, but for some reason I cannot get Torque to get readings. It's connecting with your code, but no readings. I tried some more codes I got from the net, same result. |

Rakin's NZT240 predates CAN bus (depending on the year). If that is the case, then the comm would be completely different from your 05 Vitz.
