That wiring kit is for cars with already combined brake and turn signals. You will either need a trailer wiring converter or, if you use LEDs for your lighting you can just install one set per function and tie them directly to the tail light wires (with an inline connector for being able to disconnect).

Took my little harbor freight trailer mod on a 450+ mile trip (one way) to Astoria Ore. Down through the Columbia river gorge at speeds reaching 90MPH. Had vacation gear in it, not a lot of weight. Those are aftermarket LED taillights.

First pic the mounting. Second pic is without the ball mount - can't really tell it has a hitch. Third pic is ready to tow
Got the hitch at etrailer for $108.95 http://www.etrailer.com/p-60209.html UPS ground was $24.92 for shipping. This is my trailer, http://www.harborfreight.com/870-lb-...res-42708.html got it on sale for $140, I also welded the corners and the center brace and used different bolts than what came with it. I made the box removable so I can use it as a small flatbed.

I have one. No wiring though. I'm guessing it was used for some kind of cargo carrier...

Hey, did you ever install the cargo carrier? I'm thinking about getting one for camping gear. That way, we can bring my single, non-driving friend camping!! Please let me know how it worked out.
Cheers |

My family of 3 have to make an annual 1,600km trek to New Brunswick. 3 years ago I decided I wanted to start making the trip in the Yaris, but needed to facilitate additional storage capacity. Enter the hitch basket.
Here it is in NB with a hockey equipment sized duffel bag secured in the basket. Worked out well, and has for 3 trips so far. You want to be conscious of how much weight is loaded in the basket. The basket weight + gear can easily introduce a fair amount of tongue weight which is sitting quite a distance aft of the rear axle.

I want to add a hitch to my 2009 sedan so I can add a bike rack. Both my mountain bike and my wife's bike have a severely sloped downtube, so I'm looking at both the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver and Lets Go Aero BikeWing-2 2-Bike Rack at ETrailer.
The sales people are super helpful there and advised that I consult my dealer first because the tongue weight shouldn't exceed 70 lbs. And that's in Canada. I'm in state States where I think it's somehow verboten. With 2 bikes and the rack, it probably won't exceed 70lbs by much. Anyone experience any repercussions? I've searched the forum but couldn't find anything definitive. I have no towing aspirations.

OK, I'll share my 4'x8' Hazard Fraught "super duty" folding trailer.
I put it together last summer, since then have used it for trips to the dump, helping people move, and a few 100+ mile highway trips. Handles fine if you are careful about weight distribution. I really want to enclose for camping. Link to photos Last edited by grilled cheeseus; 03-31-2018 at 07:17 AM. |
