But if you get the membership, it comes to about the same price as Royal Purple. 35-40$ the gallon Shipping is 10-15$ I buy 4 gallon at once and I'm good for 3-4 years. I've been using RP for many years, but got fed up traveling almost 2hours round trip to get it, or pay for shipping. I used to get them for 37$ the gallon at performance improvements, but price has increased so I turned to Amsoil shipped to me home. I'm likely not going with synthetic oil for my next car though. That would be me! ![]() Heres why I think that. Increased mpg? I drove 5200 miles from NJ to AK on regular oil, changed the oil in the Walmart parking lot in Fairbanks with Mobil 1, turned around and drove 5200 miles back to NJ. I kept track of the gallons used each way and...burned slightly MORE gas coming home. So much for increased mpg with synthetic. ![]() As for the engine lasting longer with synthetic oil. First of all, if you sell the car before its scrap youre just wasting money using synthetic oil. Im 60 now and only drove one car to destruction a 1974 VW Beetle. It had 250,000 miles on it and was totally rusted out in the floorpan making it completely unsafe. I rebuilt the engine at 125,000 miles and all it really needed was a valve job and pistons and cylinders. The crank, rod, and cam bearings and journals were all within spec. In fact they were STILL in spec at 250,000 miles! ![]() I put the crank, rods, cam and various other engine parts in a 1971 Bus and put another 30,000 miles on it before I sold it. Now....the VW engines had 2.5 quarts of oil in them, were aircooled which is harder on engine parts, and had NO OIL FILTER, just a removable screen. I did change the oil every 1500 miles... I see some new Toyota engines call for synthetic oil. I guess they got you there. Also, synthetic oil in my experience flows better and starts the engine easier at temps below say 10 degrees F. But practically the rest of the car will be falling apart and just uneconomical to maintain long before the engine block grenades using just regular oil.

Mobil 1 is a blend of synthetic and dino oils. It is NOT a full true 100% synthetic oil.

![]() Holy crap that is cheap. Walmart brand dino oil here is $17. 4.4L to 5L of name brand oil is often on sale for $25 - but the regular price is still $30 to $50! I used to grab oil on any cross border shopping trip. Now I can't anymore
