Turn signal auto-shutoff not working
I took my steering wheel off to replace a broken spiral cable. I haven't found a replacement cable yet, but I put the wheel back together to drive it in the meantime. Now my turn signals won't shut off automatically after making a turn; I have to shut them off manually. Is this feature somehow dependent on having a spiral cable in place, or did I break something?

It is dependent on the spiral cable being present.

How interesting. You're right, it's fixed after replacing the spiral cable. How does that work? There aren't wires for it in the spiral cable, so I thought it had to be mechanical.

I don't know the Yaris' mechanism, but mercedes used a small plastic pin in the 80's that flipped out and was pushed aside by a tooth in the steering mechanism.
Maybe the spiral cable assembly provides this tooth? |

^Exactly - It is just a simple plastic tab that knocks the turn signal lever back.

How hard to fix?
I have never removed anything from my steering column, but now my right turn signal won't self cancel. Can I fix this myself? Should I replace the whole unit? Any instructions posted anywhere?
