Yep lol. I was in the process of buying a house when the real estate bubble popped, and prices were in the toilet. So I was looking at a lot of houses online, and there was a lot of real big, real nice stuff for under a million. There were some 6500 square foot and 8500 square foot houses for around $850k. At the time I really wished I had $850k. And those were at least within driving distance of the metroplex.

But the house would be largely empty because I wouldn't have had the money to fill it with all the right furniture lol

But those bubbles come and go, so if you simply waited, those kinds of prices would come back again. Also that was somewhat close to the metroplex. You get out into some smaller less populated areas, and the prices will still be that way. But those areas kind of suck in a way, you have to drive at least 1.5 hours to get to all the good stuff. But you may be looking at more like 2 hours.

i noticed that one of those houses you posted sold in 2017 for $475,000. what changed in a year that doubled the price?
if you move to CO, denver is very difficult to find anything. Colorado Springs has some. up north in Ft. Collins would be the best. the west is nice, but work is harder to come by.

i live in the midwest and the most comparable on that list to me is decatur, illinois. yeah, homes are cheap out here but all we have(at least where i live) are cornfields and warehouses. i realize i can take a trip to see some more of nature(we vacation every year on lake michigan), but i really get jealous when i see backgrounds of mountains and tall evergreen trees! no, i could never afford to live in those top 5 most expensive places, but i'm a little jealous of all there is to do in those places. just offering a different point of view.

LOL. I'd move back to Montreal in a heartbeat. I still own a nice house in Beaconsfield, and I really enjoy the 4 seasons. BUT... my wife hates the cold weather. Too bad for me.

Man, some expensive stuff. Our 4 bedroom house in a decent area of Machesney Park with a 4 Yaris sized car garage was only 70 grand.
