Micro Image SSK
So I received my Short Shift kit except there is one problem with my yaris.
My shift cable disconnects, but not the rubber insert that is on the transmission lever on the post that the short shift gets connected to. Because of this I can't install it. Any tips on what I can do? I am going to get some Aero Kroil to hopefully loosen it up. |

Post up a picture so I know exactly what part you're talking about. I don't remember a rubber part being , however I installed mine a while ago.
What ssk did you get? MI has 3 different ssk's, 2 under hood and one in cabin kit

Taken from another post here in yaris world, the piece underneath the washer and cotterpin. That piece is stuck and won't come off. The cable itself comes off, but not the piece it's connected to. I got the kit with the in-engine short shift and the shift cable bracket. |

there should not be any issues removing the shifter cable. you may have some other issues...

I don't remember having to remove anything else underneath the washer. I'm pretty sure the ssk mounts right to the that piece underneath the washer

So to give a bit more information, underneath the washer and cotter pin, as seen in the picture above, there is a rubber insert that the Shift Cable End is attached to. When I pull up on the shift cable end, the plastic piece disconnects, but not the rubber piece that the end goes over, leaving a hole in the shift cable end about the size of the washer. Because of this, there is not enough space on the peg to place the short shifter on. I was going to put some PB Blaster on it to loosen the connection but did some research on it and found that rubber does not mix well with PB Blaster. I'm going to buy a can of Kroil on my next paycheck unless someone can come up with a solution.
I've already tried using Fluid Film and WD40 to weaken the connection between the rubber and the peg to no avail. If anyone can assist me in getting this figured out it would be greatly appreciated. I will update with pictures later today or tomorrow as I am at work right now. I'll see if I can get some pictures on my phone. |

Use a small narrow pick to pry some air gap between the rubber and the peg and then use some silicone lube with a straw to spray in the gap. This should help loosen it up

I will attempt it. Any good silicone lube brands you can recommend?

I've always used Canadian tire in house brand and have been happy with it

what you need is a hose spreader. it looks like a large "outside" snap ring pliers with a fork at the end.
a small angled pry bar. maybe a threaded brake pad tool. an angled body panel tool. a ball joint tool. a steering wheel puller. a gear puller. you can borrow a lot of these from autozone, advanced auto, o'rilly's, etc. |

Assuming I would use them to pry it off the peg?

did you try shifting the car in different gears first to see if you can get more wiggle room? I cant remember if i even popped what you are referring to off when i did it back then.
also did you get the bracket as well? it will help to move the linkage to a better angle.

So I got it installed with the bracket. I had to get my brake lines fixed as I was coming home from the bars ( I was the DD since I don't drink) and hit some nasty potholes that took out my brakes.
After my brakes were fixed I asked the guy if he could get the short shift installed and he said he would try. So the root of the problem was the brass bushing stuck on transmission lever was seized. Got that off, installed the part and bracket, and away we went. Brakes and all. Was pretty cheap too and I gotta say I LOVE IT! HOLY SHIT ITS SO NICE |

Sorry for being a little late to this reply but I installed it a couple of years ago and had the grinding issue, turns out the orientation matters so you might want to double check that. I never had grinding after properly orientating it.
