Mounting Roof Rack
Do the roof rack for the 2011 Yaris mount on the drainage tracks where the rubber strips are?
My intent is to mount a small 10' Kayak on the roof and I'm not sure on the options. (or just pull it into the car and let the back 4 feet stick out) |

Thanks!
The 2 door limits my options and I'm really not willing to start drilling holes. Maybe an 8' kayak and just let it stick out the back. |

Have you looked into simply using one of the many foam block systems available?

When I looked it up, most were dependent on having a roof rack in the first place. All of these solutions require a door that opens, and on a 2dr, I would have to have 2 racks and or blocks 2 feet apart on the roof making the kayak unstable. One solution is to have a rack installed as far forward as possible, then a foam block strapped to the kayak 3 or 4 feet from the front rack, then a rope or strap from the kayak stern to my hitch. Still thinking about it. |

Do the rear windows on a two door not pop open?
Also, without being able to use J-racks, I'd imagine you'd have to unscrew the antenna. FWIW, I haul 14', 52 pound kayaks on my other vehicle. Crossbars are 28" apart. Plenty stable with front and rear tie downs.

I'll remove the antenna, I don't use local radio. (If I had a plug or cap I'd delete the antenna mount) Looked up a few of the foam mount options. Some of those might work. (great suggestion) |

ill step in and go for the less obvious...get a hitch and make/buy an arm mount for the kayak, could make a similar bar style mount up front too if your creative..or just add a single bar rack at the front doors, this gives you 2 very solid points
if you like the idea and have little to no skill you can modify flat tow bar setup as if the yaris was being hauled behind an rv with very little effort |
