Fuel leak close to the tank
Hi folks,
I felt a strong fuel smell inside the car so I inspected the fuel system and found ruptured hose close to the fuel tank. Took two pictures. Originally the hose was ruptured in the red circle. I cut the ruptured part and assembled it back but used a bit more power than I should and now the gas is leaking in the yellow circle. I know that everything there is rusty af so it was only a matter of time. But I am supposed to drive 500 km over the next two days and cannot get it fixed properly now. I suppose that this ruptured hose is only between the tank and charcoal canister (that black box is charcoal canister I guess) and I do not have to worry about losing all fuel if that rusty pipe with the formerly ruptured hose falls off completely. Please, am i right? Fixing this does not look to me as a simple diy, at least I was not able to find that metal pipe new, anywhere. Thanks folks for any comment on this. |

I don't see the picture but is there any rust free lines? They make nylon to steel unions, look up Dorman 800-135. Now is the other end a quick disconnect?

I had seen the pictures when first posted. They definitely have vanished. The amount of rust shown was fearsome.

I am not sure why the picts are not showing up but anyway here are direct links:
https://ibb.co/2ScGM9n https://ibb.co/ynPxwMs I know that this is rusty AF so I will drive this to a shop and ask them to change whatever they find necessary. I managed to travel those 500 km without any problem (with half-tank full the gas smell is not present in the cabin at all) fortunately. I just hope the shop can use some generic materials to get this fixed properly. I found the price of the original hoses and pipes... 15 USD for a short piece of pipe is crazy... |

The car went thru national technical checkup a month ago and the inspector declared it as usable with "surface rust not impacting critical structures".
But yes, this part does look ugly. Other parts (subframe, front suspension etc.) do not look that horrible at all. I do not know why. In any case, local service shop checked the pictures and will review what needs to be changed. I will post pictures "after" and also how much money I spent. |
