4x4-look Yaris!

Unless it's lowered, why does the Yaris look like a 4x4 when you put aftermarket wheels on it? It looks positively silly!

But, when I look at a stock Yaris with steelies and caps, it looks okay.

Or, when I look at a stock Yaris with OEM 15" or 16" alloys it looks okay.

What's that all about?

Does it have something to do with the offset? That is, the more the wheels/tires stick out, the more you notice the gap between the tire and the fender? Is that it?

I'm ready to put wheels and tires on my car, but I don't want to lower the car, and I really don't want it to look like it's ready to hill climb!

+1...its excessive indeed. When i see an unlowered yaris now - i wonder how i ever lasted the handful of weeks i had the car looking like that. Its embarrassing.

The smaller offset makes them tucked in...
The larger the offset, the more tucked. Smaller offset sets the wheel out more.
