Our new vinyl plotter just got delivered to the office. Now we can do all the detail work, and change some of the graphics as needed for the type of event the car is going to.

Should be looking good for its debut on the 14th.

Time to head down to San Diego for the SCCA Solo National Tour. Won't be getting any work done on the Yaris this weekend. But at least I get to race something with some power.

Late last night I got the headlight covers and flares back on, car is looking sharp. The Toyota transporter comes at 6:00pm to pick it up for its trip to the Staples Center.

Nothing new to report... Spent most of he weekend at the LB GP. Our shock guy was in town for the race, unfortunately our shocks were not in his carry-on luggage. The shocks are still being worked over, and will have to catch another flight from the Netherlands.

Still have not had time to get the engine management installed.

We did get our new 20-9.5-13 Goodyear Eagle slicks. Just a tick wider than the 15s, at 10.5", and 3"s shorter. This will help fix our way to tall gearing, and drops a good deal of unsprung weight. Now if the wheels would just get here.

Looks like we will be running the same setup as the last few races when we head to Buttonwillow for the Double National this weekend.

I spent a huge portion of my time on the simulator vendors that were there. hahaha. I even had paddock passes.

Slight setback at Buttonwillow....

Qualified strong, 2nd, after skipping practice - this turned out to be dumb. When we read the sups for the event we both read it as we were running the same configuration as we normally use for every Natl race there, but this was not the case. So we were learning a new layout in qual and still ran fast.

Things were looking great during the race, should have been able to run for the win. But on lap 4 as I tracked out over the FIA curbing on corner exit something let go - a still unidentified part broke and made the car unsteerable, resulting in an a impact with one of the worker station walls. Lucky this was one of the slowest turns on the track, I was only going about 60mph when I realized I had a problem, and got it down to about 40mph on impact.

Took about an hour to pull off all the damaged body work, and most of the damage is just cosmetic. The uni-body is strait, and all the mounting points are intact.

So while we are waiting on these parts we are going to move our schedule up a couple of months and get the engine and trans work down now.

Glad to see you and the Yaris are OK .

Is that a Fluidyne or Koyo radiator ? Also where did you get the radiator hoses from ? I will be needing both of those soon .

Thanks

Round two getting slowly under way... The new hood and intake system have shown up.

Plan is to get the trans out this weekend, and next week having the LSD rebuilt and the gears changed.

Now we just have to pull the trigger and pick which engine builder we are going to use. We have talked to everyone from the local guy we know, to an engine shop Toyota uses for ALMS/Rolex/Nascar. For the most part they are all starting at ground zero with a Yaris engine.

Hopefully during the tear down process we find our steering issue.

Transmission came out on Saturday... Man that is so much easier when you don't have the front end on the car.

Progress... New radiator and hoses arrived. Just visited the shop that is rebuilding the LSD and putting in the new gear set, should be done tomorrow.

Going to be busy doing some driver coaching on Sat, but hopefully will be able to install the trans on Sun.

I am just putting a feeler out to see if there is interested in OE style fiberglass front fenders...

After the recent mishap with our HP Yaris we are replacing all of the front body work. To meet the SCCA Production class rules we have to cover the tops of our 10.5" wide slicks, this has required the use of flares. I was talking to the vendor who supplies our flares about building a one-piece fiberglass fender, with the flare already built in.

This should cut some weight on the front of the car, and give us the tire clearance/coverage we need. The other option would be just a direct OE replacement with no flare, if you want the flares you just add them on.

I just did not know if anyone other than us would be interested in such a product. He should have a ballpark figure for me in the next week, and a minimum number needed to proceed - so far it sounds like six pairs.

The end result would look very similar to the image below.

I don't think I ever followed up from the accident... We found no broken parts, however, we do think we found the culprit. While sweeping the new suspension (running it throughout its range without a spring in place, so we can check travel limits) we found that is was possible for the front swaybar to come in contact with the inner steering rack boot on the passengers side. This required extreme compression with some steering input.

From this we can only extrapolate that in the process of curb hopping at Buttonwillow we found this limit. Seems like it was a fluke, we went over that same curb 50 times that day with no issues, and I doubt we will ever experience this again. Even at Miller I was all over the curbs and had no problem.

On its way... There was also a Yaris sedan race car in the trailer. It was just a roller, looks like a project that never got finished. The driver did not know much about it, just picked it up at one of the Toyota garages.

Found it... The 4-door was another past SEMA show car. The 2006 Street Image car. It has no engine and no brake calipers, but looks like a good start as it has an awesome cage - and air jacks.
