Glad to see you and the Yaris are OK .
Is that a Fluidyne or Koyo radiator ? Also where did you get the radiator hoses from ? I will be needing both of those soon . Thanks

Round two getting slowly under way... The new hood and intake system have shown up.
Plan is to get the trans out this weekend, and next week having the LSD rebuilt and the gears changed. Now we just have to pull the trigger and pick which engine builder we are going to use. We have talked to everyone from the local guy we know, to an engine shop Toyota uses for ALMS/Rolex/Nascar. For the most part they are all starting at ground zero with a Yaris engine. Hopefully during the tear down process we find our steering issue.

Did you get to the bottom of the steering lock issue yet?

Transmission came out on Saturday... Man that is so much easier when you don't have the front end on the car.

Progress... New radiator and hoses arrived. Just visited the shop that is rebuilding the LSD and putting in the new gear set, should be done tomorrow.
Going to be busy doing some driver coaching on Sat, but hopefully will be able to install the trans on Sun.

The transmission is back in. Freshly rebuilt Kaaz LSD ready to put power down. And the way to tall 3.722 final drive has been replaced with 4.312, this should help acceleration - even more so when we drop from the 23" Goodyear slicks to the 20" units. We should just about be able to launch in 2nd gear now.

I'm assuming you grabbed the 4.3 final from a C52/C56/C156 or similar? If so, did you just swap the Yaris bell housing onto the C5_ centre casing? Any problems with shifter cables etc?

That seems like a lot of work... We found it much easier, and cheaper, to use the final drive and output shaft from an xB C50. Direct bolt in.

The fenders are flared, not an issue. It was also nothing in the trans/lsd.
This has been very low on the priority list. As we take the car apart and prepare for the Runoffs we are checking the various parts. We have found two questionable items that may be related to the problem, once we nail it down for sure I will post our findings.

I am just putting a feeler out to see if there is interested in OE style fiberglass front fenders...
After the recent mishap with our HP Yaris we are replacing all of the front body work. To meet the SCCA Production class rules we have to cover the tops of our 10.5" wide slicks, this has required the use of flares. I was talking to the vendor who supplies our flares about building a one-piece fiberglass fender, with the flare already built in. This should cut some weight on the front of the car, and give us the tire clearance/coverage we need. The other option would be just a direct OE replacement with no flare, if you want the flares you just add them on. I just did not know if anyone other than us would be interested in such a product. He should have a ballpark figure for me in the next week, and a minimum number needed to proceed - so far it sounds like six pairs. The end result would look very similar to the image below.

C50's are rare as over here (And I wouldn't be able to make use of my TRD 4.7:1 final drive kit). |

Rob, I can send you a C50 anytime, we get them from salvage.

Thanks for the offer Garm but it's not needed. I have a C52, a C150 and a C56 all stripped on my bench at home, I'm too far down the track to not make the most of it now. Bearings and synchros for the C56 are ordered. Just got to drill the C56 casing for the mount, throw it all together including the lsd and the TRD final drive and slap on the C150 bellhousing on it. End result should be a close ration gearset with a top speed of about 110mph depending on rev limit and tyre size.

OK, what smart guy came up with an 8mm bi-hexagon head bolt. We got all the peripherals off, and the cams out, only to find we need this special socket to pull the head.
Oh well, the tool is on its way, and the head will wait a few more days.

Things can start moving again... The 8mm bi-hexagon showed up today.
So sometime between the tire test tomorrow, and racing on Sunday, I will hopefully find time to pull the head.

Between our testing on Saturday, and playing on Sunday, no progress on the Yaris.
And what a disappointment, the Corvette I was racing on Sunday had ABS issues again, so the owner decided to park it. I did find a suitable replacement, 430 Scuderia... http://www.youtube.com/user/SportsCa.../0/m6-YM5FHGpI That was the coolest thing I have ever gotten to take a lap in. If you have the means I highly recommend getting one. If you don't, just find someone else who does.
