This is a real cool thread!
I have the scanguage as a tach in my car, but I'd love a real tach too...

If this has any chance of working, I'd say drive around tomorrow and then put the new one back in tomorrow night (with the battery disconnected).

i'm not sure if this would work in any way or not. but my old car if you disconnected the - part of the battery, then turned the key like you were going to turn the car on, and left it in that position for a few minutes it would "reset" the ECU. this is how i got my check engine light to go off before an inspection a few times. maybe resetting it will cause it to recognize the new cluster as what is stored in the ECU's memory from the old cluster. just a shot in the dark, but you never know.

I'd say go for it Mike!

correction - it will NOT be me- at least for awhile
junkyard sent cluster that did not have a tach- i guess they figure some folks won't go to the trouble of a return so the hunt continues- anyone with a lead on a hatch cluster with a tach and abs light- please let me know what a bummer! |

Unfortunately, this did not work. The mileage in the new cluster remained the same after disconnecting the battery

There are so many different threads on this. Can we just combine them all and sticky this since it seems to be such a hot topic?
Also, what kind of cluster would I have to search for to get the one that walterokus used? I like how it's the base model colors and not the orange S model colors.

well Mike- at least according to CT you have the option of getting the dealer to correct it-
Mike I've been losing my mind trying to find the part- how were you so lucky? Last edited by Lewis; 08-12-2009 at 01:12 PM. |

Lewis, how about trying the battery disconnected swap (in the name of science) before you return the wrong one? By the way, last night I was doing some research on the parts that are going to be in the wrecked Yaris that I am picking up on Thursday. It is an 08, built in 08/2007. In the EPC I noticed that there was a bulletin (dated August 2, 2007) attached to the speedometer info. This is the first time that I've run into an attached bulletin when looking up parts. In the bulletin it says: Eligible Parts Programmed Digital Odometer replacement part numbers for Toyota and Scion vehicles are listed on the last two pages of this bulletin. Odometers should be ordered to be programmed to read the vehicle’s actual indicated mileage at the time of odometer replacement and must be ordered directly from the listed vendor (Denso or Yazaki) In the Yaris section at the end it references the following part numbers: 83800-52B70 83800-52C70 83800-52E70 83800-52E80 83800-52E90 83800-52F00 83800-52F10 83800-52L00 |

I just went to Google and typed in 'junkyards' and filled out forms on a few of the pages that popped up. Most of the places got back to me within 24 hours and quite a few of them had the part in stock. Just be prepared to spend at least $200. Mine was $225 with 1,100 miles on it from yard4.com

Try Thomas at FindAPartNow @ 717-214-4566. When I called at the end of July, he had one available for $283 + $15 shipping. Most places will try to direct you to someone else if they don't have the part themselves. That's how I got the number for yard4.com and ended up getting a near-new cluster for so cheap.

Just kidding but Mike with 1,100 miles on it why change it?
:-) Too late to try the experiment CT- I've already returned it. :-( Thanks for the tips Mike- the quest continues- I thought that something was wrong with the price of $125 btw as the going rate for what we need seems to be higher. Been looking at eBay- to no avail - just speedos and sedan clusters with tachs the last few weeks. |
