Finished my final drive gear ration research... I'll probably start a new thread when I have all the parts and #'s handy.
The Scion Xa/Xb uses the same C50 trans as our Yaris NCP91. The older Echo had a C150 trans which uses a slightly different bolt pattern, but internals are also very similar (if not same). Some people have also fitted the C60 and C160 tranmissions from Levin AE111 and Matrix Xrs, which are 6-speed trannies. The only difference between Scion and Yaris trans is the final drive. Xa/Xb has 4.315 stock and Yaris has 3.722 stock. This means that we should be able to purchase the Scion ring gear and pinion gears (~$450) and swap them into our trans. Alternatively we can swap complete trannies with a Scion owner who is looking for better MPG or lower revs during cruise. I posted on Scionlife to see if anyones interested in swapping. Also, TRD competition transmission gear set changes the ratios, theres two to choose from Part number : 33030-EP702 Gear / Ratio C150 5MT 1st 2.786:1 2nd 2.059:1 3rd 1.600:1 4th 1.273:1 5th 1.042:1 Part number : 33030-EP752 Gear / Ratio C150 5MT 1st 3.200:1 2nd 2.359:1 3rd 1.850:1 4th 1.458:1 5th 1.167:1 |

i had two Rx-7's, bought the first out of high school and the second in the winter after that. First was a black 91 Na, it had a bad motor but i paid $300 for the car! i suck about a grand in it and rebuilt the motor myself. it ran well for about 6 months and then blew up. next i bought a wrecked TII and tried to transplant it into the '91, but the TII was a series 4 and the '91 was a series 5 (same body style though) so i was screwed. sold everything, parted both cars out, and bought my 240 in the spring. had that car 5 years, but i missed my Rx7's.

the changes from S4 -> S5 are very subtle but just enough to make the car ok to so hot.
