Pay off your credit card. If not, whatever you buy is costing MUCH more than what you paid, as you're paying interest on top of the original cost. Not smart. Don't be a typical American...try to be as debt-free as possible. In these tough economic times, being debt-free puts you in the best possible financial position.

i hear that.. I'm certianly not the typical american.. the only debt i have is left over from some promotional stunts from the business i started a couple years ago and sold.. I had them almost paid off . then the jeep we had before this yaris had the transmission go, brakes .. etc and i thought we were going to keep it so i dumped 4k into it. :( .. just to sell it for 3500... luckily we only paid 1500 for the jeep from a friend of the family.

I screen print and am starting to do rock shows to promote the business and get the bands together that create shirts for .. i'll be making about $1000 a night off ticket sales.. I plan to do it Once a month.. and pay off all the credit cards quick.. then hammer down the car :)

I have never purchased gap, but then I always put down a substantial down payment. At least that's the way I understand it. I figure it should still pay off the car no problem. It has never even been offered to me.

I did get the extended warranty (probably should have passed on it), but we keep cars forever. Did not get it on husbands though because that dealership offers lifetime powertrain warranties. That would be the only reason I'd consider trading mine, to get the lifetime warranty from that dealership. I did get a better price so hopefully it's worth it.

Gap is not a bad deal, but it is a BETTER deal on cars that lose value at a higher rate than any Toyo/Honda product. That said, I picked it up cause it was cheap when spread out over the length of the loan. I did not buy an extended warranty, but I must admit I struggled.

Extended warranty on "basic" cars is not a good deal. However, when you start adding gadgets to a car, warranty coverage on the gadgets can be quite handy. For instance, I have had probably ten cars with power windows and not one of them went the duration without several of the windows failing. Most recently a 2000 Durango - intermittant operation of rear windows, 91 Camry no operation of rear windows and intermittant operation of passenger window, 97 Sentra no operation of rear windows, 97 Suburban no operation of one rear window and power seat went out, 97 Bonneville no operation of one rear window.

On the Suburban, I purchased a warranty which covered the window AND the failed power Driver's seat. Paid for the warranty twice over if memory serves.

If you have power options, the warranty may or may not pay off. If you have no power options, the warranty is a HUGE waste of money. FWIW

i do have the power package.. but the whole power door system can be purchased on ebay for far less than the dealer would charge for it .. and i could probably handle fixing it :)

i'm dropping the warranty.. lol i've called twice today.. and left messages.. might have to go pay them a visit..

I imagine if I bought a camry with navigation and such, I'd buy a warranty. And, I'd probably buy one if I bought a hybrid. I still don't trust the technology.

i have worries about when the hybrids get junked.. isnt there like 80lbs of lithuim in them or something.. not the best thing for the environment

Well, I went back to my dealer today and added GAP for an additional $8 a month on my payments.

Mikeb made a good point about power windows and locks going bad and the extended warranty covering those. Now he's got me thinking that maybe I should get the warranty.

And don't forget the damage to the environment just in manufacturing all these batteries, from the mines to the shipping to the disposing....batteries = bad and I object in principle.

Like I said, I reallllly struggled. I am still not sure I made the right gamble, so - as if anyone needs my approval - if you have a power package and you buy a warranty, you won't hear any objections from me. It's a crap shoot. The bottom line is that your power windows WILL break. The gamble is whether or not your extended warrantee will still be in effect when it happens. Take it from me - nothing more frustrating than driving a good looking five year old car that the windows don't work on!! So much for saving money by not running the AC!

I used to sell electronics and appliances. We ALWAYS made more money on the warantees than the product (commission). I wonder if it is the same with vehicle warrantees?

We bought the extended warranty ($2000.00 for the 200,000km (124,274 miles)warranty) cause we hope to have the car in 10 years and because we do a lot of highway miles, so far after 6 months we have 14,000 kms (8,699 miles) on it. Having said that, my husband noticed that a few scheduled maintenance, cost $200.00+. He thinks that if you are maintaining the car (which he really didn't do with our other cars!!) you don't need the warranty. So you never know. All the warranties we paid for over the years, we really never got our money's worth. I guess it all depends on how long you want to have the car for.

the F&I guy screwed up and thought i had 90 days to dump it but i only had 30 days .. so it only refunded 1609 to the account and they have to mail me a check for $80

so Garm or Rockland Toyota will be getting that :)

I need a rear bumper protector (to save the bumper from our dog that jumps in and out of the car a few times a week :)

so not only will i make payments for the next 6mo even though i dont have to... it will be 6months without interest deducted from my payments.. so i get to pay off like 1800$ of the principle in 6 months.. more if i feel like paying into it a little more durring some months.. that will knock me down to only owing like 13k by the start of the summer

don't wanna ttt this, but i have an extended warranty. *some company in florida* will check to get the exact name. got it october 5th and spent $680 for 7 years/70,000 miles, but i'm thinking about going back and getting a pro-rated refund towards the loan.

Got the extened warranty on mine good out to 100,000 and only paid $480, top of the line on the warranty. If you can get it for under 600 go for it.
