I'm looking at something like this, like the way it uses the factory tie-down locations for mounting!

Wiring for trailer?
I installed a 1 1/4 inch receiver on my 3-door Yaris to be able to transport a couple of bikes. I never tried to tow even a small trailer because I could not find a location where I could tap into the rear lights.
Where is the most convenient place to get at the rear wiring? |

Purchased from etrailers for 88 bucks + shipping. It's a class 1 hitch but it was easy to install and does its bike carrier duties perfectly. Couldn't be happier with the setup. http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitc...eid=2008203617 |

Heres an idea for us Yaris owners that want to take a few things with us but don't want everything taking up space in the car. This is also a good idea for the weekend Auto-Xer or Track Event junkie, who wants to be able to lock up your stuff at Hotels and some Tracks, I hate to say!!

2011 Yaris Automatic towing 14' boat
http://m.flickr.com/lightbox?id=9627553856I towed a 14' aluminum boat over 100 miles. The Yaris handled it better than a lot of cars and trucks I've towed with in the past. Putting it in the lake was easy too!

If you are going to have one custom welded, copying that same style would be the way to go. That one mounts between the two rear tie down points and the end plates are designed to tuck the cross member up under the bumper skin so you only see the receiver and the chain loops.

I would just drop the receiver below the lights. I wouldn't want an off center hitch on a small car.
