I'm not sure of the exact rotor material, but I'm not sure what you mean by the "internals of the disc". The construction is different, because it retains an e-brake shoe inside. So, when you install it, you have a place to attach the e-brake cable.
thats really cool that it retains the E brake function. Now what about brake balance? does it do anything to change the front to rear balance? i would think it would have to shift it to the rear a little, which may not be bad.

I felt a slight increase in braking after I installed the rear discs.

I did too. Without scientifically testing it, I would say the rear brakes are doing a bit more of the work.
