My Mom's '06 Corolla's water pump bit the dust at 16k. It was replaced for free. She has the extended warr. on the car.Zero mods.
I too bought the ex warr. on the Yaris.Glad I did now.
These cars seem a bit too complex for a cheap subcompact. Electric steering, drive by wire TB, the self cranking starter motor.......geeze

Also i had my tire pressure set at 40 they set it all to 32 and then sucked out wiper fluid from my resivoire to the full mark since i had it full to the top. They shoudl just assume the car is obviousely customized and thats the way the owner likes it and not to mess with anything besides the work thats on the work order. I anal about my car like that. I even hand torque every lug nut when i take the wheels off and carefully rack my car up so none of the lift point tabs have even a scratch let alone bent.
Did you forget you live in america? They let a single customer leave with tire pressure out of recommended specs and a tire blows/driver loses control and that person just hit the legal lottery. And if they left the fluid overfilled and you came back with malfunctioning wiper fluid, you'd still expect them to fix it for free. The coolant didn't hurt anything and the torque dampener was in the way - its not their job to take extra time to figure out how to work around your aftermarket equipment.

Honestly, in this economy, I'm surprised they didn't charge you and claim the pulley caused water pump failure. I don't think it did, but they certainly could have given you the run around and there wouldn't have been much you could have done about it.

You beat the hell out of your car, get it fixed for free, and still complain.......
