exactly, high speed driving will be the only way youll notice. I drove my malibu into a concrete guardrail at about 40km/h and it never drove the same afterward, it would track straight but at high speed you could notice it off balance and the tires would always only last at max a year before they wouldnt balance. That is probably worst case. From what Ive seen on the news though you wont have much of a chance to do some highway testing....
BTW the Yaris has actually been one of the better cars Ive had to drive in the winter.

i had to put my stock rims/tires back.
i'm very impressed how yaris handle on snow with stock tires.. it was really fun driving on heavy snow. and for the damage rim, i would try to hammer the bent lip.. good thing about steely it can be repaired by hammering.. and new steely should be around 50~80 CAD from toyota dealer |

I've already banged up my wheel badly in two occasion. One time I was slowing down on the left turn lane while coming to a stop and went up the curb cause I was paying more attention to my blackberry while the car drifted into the curb. The left wheels hit the curb at about 40 km/hr in the dry, but the tires took the impact and the car simply went up the curb, but it still was a very hard hit and the rims got scuffed slightly. luckily, the hub caps didn't take the hit. The other incident was even more dramatic, taking a very fast U-turn, misjudged and the front right wheel hit hard against the curb while fully cranked (another inch and I would have made it). My rim looks almost as bad as yours from scrapping against the curb and small chunk of the hubcap got torn out. Anyways, after all the abuse, the car still tracks true on the highway at 180km/hr, so I'm not concerned. However, my front-right hubcaps is a big mess from constantly smacking it against the curb. If anyone is in the GTA area and wants to get rid of their hub caps, let me know, cause I'm going through mine fairly quickly. |
