Trade the Yar on a jetta diesel - I think both of you might like that ( wont be embarrassed to be seen in) and it'll get spectacular fuel mileage.

New Yaris' Sedan base models are going for around 13.5k at 0% interest on a 5 year term. That works out to $225 / month on a purchase of a brand new, never owned car with 0 miles (or close to 0) and a full length warranty.
Used car loans are running about 5% ,or more, on a 5 year term. If you ask 11k for your car, the purchaser will have nearly the same (~$220) payment every month on a used car with 1 year of it's warranty gone and over 4k miles on it. Since new ones are so inexpensive, I'd be surprised if you get more than $8500-$9000 for it. It will probably end up closer to $8k. Good luck. |

You can't get a sedan auto for $13,500 ... the sticker on mine was 15,900 and change.... basicly 16,000.... unless the price dropped that much.... I think the hatches are cheaper and the 2 doors are much cheaper..... And I think I'll keep the wife for now... she puts up with me and thats not an easy chore....

Your original post said it was a base model so that's what I was working from. If you have other options, of course it will effect the price. Toyota's site has the sedan base at 13,365 MSRP. I realize that it's near impossible to get a absolute base model and price varies a little from region to region. But these days, if you are paying MSRP, you're paying too much.
If it's 16K new at 0%, its only a monthly payment of $266.00 for a brand new car. You're going to be fighting the fact that anybody that wants to buy your car is going to have to do so on a Used Car Loan with a much higher interest rate. Like someone else said "Start high and bump it down every week", it can't hurt anything. It will just take longer to sell. Honestly, I hope you get out of it cleanly but typically selling a 1 year old car is a really good way to lose money. |

Everybody does not qualify for 0% interest, only people with exceptional credit, so there is hope for the OP. Also, the OP may want to post his car on craigslist and offer to trade it for the kind of car he wants. There may be someone out there with a pickup or whatever looking to get into a Yaris.

Let a teenager joy ride in the Surbaban. After he/she wrecks it, your wife will have no choice but to drive the Yaris.

Here's a typical to pretty decent price in Los Angeles for a new auto sedan:

I am trying so freaking hard not to troll here, but what you are doing makes no sense to me at all. First let me state that I hate SUVs. There are many, smaller, high quality AWD cars that are so much more fuel efficient then any heavy SUV. A 27mpg diesel rating is nothing to brag about, and diesel is worse for the environment then gas (even these "clean" diesels). Secondly, buying a car (any car) new and only keeping it a year is crazy. You are losing so much in depreciation, it would be worth it, just to keep it another year to get some use out of all the money you are losing. I apologize if I offend you. I understand that we are all individuals with our own preferences, but my personal opinion is that people who stubbornly refuse to face the economic and environmental facts of our oil consumption, and buy SUVs, are helping to ruin our planet. I also believe wasteful gasoline habits of SUV owners are one of the reasons why gas prices are so high now. Demand has gone down, because people have gotten smarter and ditched gas guzzlers, but it's only stabilized prices for the moment. But... I digress.
Back on topic; maybe you have a friend who could take over the payments? Might be better then selling it for such a loss...

Like I said unfortunatly I have a 30 foot fishing boat, and a car hauler that I can not tow with anything below a half ton, and sometimes thats a push... also I need 4 wheel drive or AWD to be assured in the winter to be able to get back and forth from and to work, as my wife does also... we share one 4x4 and we are trying the gas saving thing..... Let me say this again... I am not happy about this situation... actually I am pissed about it but my wife hates... let me repeat hates the car that we bought that we were supposed to drive until the wheels fall off.... Our intention wasn't to sell it so soon... it was to keep it, but thats not the case. I meet my wife at work and give her the car or truck I am driving that day and she already has the other at work... If she would drive the toyota then we would be fine, but she won't... so what ends up happening is that I drive the minivan to meet her and give that to her to come home with and I am stuck driving the suburban home or vise versa.... the toyota sits... so where does this make any sense to keep paying on a vehicle that sits on my driveway and doesn't go anywhere... I just hit 4400 miles since aug. and actually got excited about it... there is something wrong..... trying to cut my losses now before it costs me more.... And btw a 2004 dodge Ram 2500 quad cab diesel overall averaging 27 miles a gallon is extremely hard to do living in NJ... flat texas maybe in the country. But I was 10 minutes outside of NYC doing this....unheard of.... I do not take offense at anybodies comments, but please read the entire thread before putting your views in.... and if you don't then people might get offended.. but the fact is that I need to keep a truck in the fleet no matter what. I can't get away from it.... unless you can show me a yaris that can tow 7500 lbs or more comfortably and safely..... I wish I could drive any car that gets anywhere near the mileage that I am averaging with the yaris on a daily basis and cut my own fuel bill in half........

BTW the boat gets the worst mileage of them all...... matters how hard/fast/far I go I can drop 250 gallons a day in her.....

i bet. boating is more than just a hobby. you need a seperate full time job to truly enjoy it...
now obviously something is going on that you don't really want to share, but that car swapping thing makes no sense to me. if she likes the suburban, let her drive it, and keep driving it. And you drive the yaris. Why switch anything?

I take my son into work with me where he falls asleep in the car (early morning) I meet my wife (she works overnights) so instead of waking him up we swap cars.. it's pretty simple... Yes I do get cars and trucks frequently but they are used not new like this one

Keeping a big SUV for towing boats, campers and various trailers is probably your only option but i sometimes wonder how the rest of the world copes with their towing needs without resorting to SUV's

have you ever seen those scary little cars or crazy minivan loaded to the max and dragging ass down the road towing a trailer.... That is not me... car is gone. probably gonna keep my eyes open for another diesel crew cab pickup... or a diesel quigly GM van to replace the suburban and yaris with. Diesel costs a bit more but you can squeeze double the gas mileage out of them.... plus my friend owns ad sells biodiesel (legally) and I heat my house with it already.. He's been trying to convince me to buy another diesel and he'll give me an exta 250 gallon tank to kep at the house... All I need to buy is the pump and pay for the fuel when he delivers at the same time for my boiler. Runs only a few cents more then regular.. usually less then $.05 difference....matters what time of year sometime it's actually much cheaper.... thee isn't as much fluctuation as regulr heating oil....
