Don't get the wrong idea though. A "proper" 2 channel system will still immerse you in sound. It's just more like listening to the "performers" on stage, rather than something you might be used to hearing in a surround sound movie for example.

It's weird because almost all stock cars have front and back speakers, so that's what people are used to hearing. So because it's what people know, sometimes things that sound different sound strange simply because they are different.

I didn't really "get" the 2 channel thing myself until I heard a really excellent 2 chan system, which was a home system not a car system. It had like $4000 speakers and was just unbelievable.

Then I heard more and more about 2 chan in cars, and done right it can be really great. That said, some people still prefer the old 4 chan too, and that's OK. There's plenty of gear out there for everybody.

Well, the concert venues around here are setup in such a way that all the audio is coming from the front, but it bounces off the back of the stadium/building and comes back up, and it's insanely loud, so it feels like you're immersed. I'll do amped front components and maybe a center channel in the dash and go from there.

Right. Just like sound produced in front will bounce off the back of your car too.

Meh

all the two channel ranting will get us so far. Let him do what he wants. That being said, I haven't needed to put in a center channel if I'm aiming the speakers. I have worked with several systems that had the need for center channels because of bad speakers and/or speaker placement.

Again, I'm ho hum about center channels. I figure if you need one you're doing something wrong.

I can tell you this, with my A-pillars, I need no center channel. It's right there. A few adjustments with time alignment and I'm sharp.

got the speakers all done and they sound amazing. it sounds so much better than the stock setup. I usually have the system faded towards the front so I can see how a 2 channel system would sound better I might keep it this way when I get an amp and a sub.

i, personally, like the surround effect. I have fronts and rears. Plus, when my kids are in back, they don't keep saying turn it up.
