Somebody has to pay for all that "free" stuff. Can you guess who that "somebody" is? Clue ... it's not the dealer. |

I honestly don't mind getting service done. When I bought my truck the A/C didn't work so I had to bring it in to have them diagnose and fix the problem. It took 3 hours and it was reaallly nice just relaxing for awhile.

Get a filter wrench for that specific filter and it is a piece of cake. If your oil catching device is slim enough, you dont need to jack the car up. Me likeee!

I wouldn't have done it even if my dealer told me it was option, but they didn't offer it. I would rather buy a toyota filter and valvoline oil (at least for 20,000 miles, then to Mobil 1) and do it myself. About $13 total. I've had bad experiences with mechanics, even at reputable dealers. Maybe its just because it's such a simple procedure, and they do 20 a day, they get sloppy. I especially hate it when they overfill the oil and it happens every time.

They always put the newest or most stoned guy on oil change duty.
I always do it myself and use Mobil One. I've been using the K&H filters that have a fitting on the top so you can take it off with a socket wrench. They're a few bucks more, but really nice. |

I wasn't even offered the oil for life service lol.
I change my own anyway, every three months or every 3,000 miles whichever comes first. |

I did my first oil change last weekend (3100 Miles). I bought an oil filter from the dealer on my way home as well as an oil drain plug gasket. I got Mobile One extended oil at Wal-mart.
By the way... The OEM oil filter I got from the dealer was not the same as the OEM's I have seen pictured here. Looked a lot cheaper. I didn't have (don't really know how to describe it) call it an extra, thin metal piece at the top kinda notched around the oil passage holes. All was going well until I checked the oil level when I was done. I am a flipping idiot The car holds 4 quarts with a filter change. The oil I picked up was in a 5 quart container. They also had 4 quart containers and that is what I though I was putting in the basket after reading the labels on a few different synthetic oils. I didn't look at the container again when I poured it in. OOPS ![]() So... I had to remove the drain plug and put it back in quick a couple of times. I guess I am lucky though.. It could have been anti-freeze or windshield washer solvent I poured into the engine Thats the first time I ever over filled any engine. I guarantee it will be the last! |

I used the attached info from this forum. 1/10th of a quart overfill won't hurt. Probably leave that much new oil in the bottle unless you let it drain forever.

i've heard you should use conventional oil until about 10,000 miles then switch to synthetic something to do with the new gaskets .
