Our liftback has more rear seating space than my other two cars. Our two fully-grown sons prefer it over the other two cars anyway, that's our family vote. The other two cars are four-door (well, the one has small "freestyle" doors for the rear) and they are both lower to the ground. So, for us anyway, our Yaris liftback IS the people mover hehe. The rear-center seat position hasn't been used yet. I've gotten in the back a few times. It's so much higher-up than my other cars, it was practically effortless - minimal contorting or slithering required.

And when it comes time to haul something, it takes me 5 seconds to yank the rear deck thingy and drop the rear seatback. Boom - enough room to haul 4 fully loaded yard trash bags! We use a blanket sometimes to protect things, depending on what and how much we're hauling. Sure, it doesn't satisfy our need for a pickup truck, but it hauls a whole lot more than our other two sporty sedan-types, a whole lot easier too to get things in and out thru that huge rear liftback door. When we have to haul bigger, or nastier stuff, we have our friends and family who are more than happy to show us why we should have bought an F150. (I suppose that wasn't politiaclly correct, but, to each - his or her own, and buying a pickup truck is not very high-up on our priority list.)

I greatly prefer the styling of the LB.

The yaris sedan is definitely one of the best styled sedans out there.

I'd say if you look at the yaris sedan, you have to also look at the corolla. If you can get past the relatively bland styling and the multitudes of them on the road, its not a bad buy.

Ahh, I guess this is the real reason i cant (dont) take advantage of the storage potential of the Yaris. I dont have to haul lots of stuff, its just more so for my weekend long or 3-4 days trips to Toronto, where I have a couple bags/suitcases of clothes, plus a cooler, plus pillows and blankets, etc.

And when in the city I'm often moving ppl around with me, or picking ppl up in Newmarket or Richmond Hill who are always coming to Toronto with me, so we have all their stuff too.

At times like these when I'm carrying people and lots of luggage is when a 4-door sedan would be so much more useful and handy!!

I agree 100%. Last summer, the four of us were trying to go in the Yaris liftback to Disneyworld, with a soft luggage carrier on top. I tried to strap that sucker down well. God, it was struggling so hard, and the luggage carrier set-up a wall up-front from the wind trying to lift it. The whole car shuddered from the wind buffeting, had to floor it to get up hills, and it was getting worse and worse. So, after trying and trying to fix the problem, we went back home, threw the bags in the trunk of the Inifiniti G20T, got in and hit the road. Man, what an improvement. So, yeah, four ppl with baggage, yeah.

But it was only that one time. I suppose some ppl might have that problem more often though.
(Anybody know of a luggge carrier that works?)

I was ready to order a Liftback 'cause it was so similar to my old economy drive, a Ford Festiva, but the area dealer had an S Sedan with almost everything on my list (Manual trans., spoiler, power package, and I added after-market remote keyless for $110 later). I was smitten when I saw her the first time and love her just as much today, 8 months later. The S styling makes a big difference over the standard sedan to me, and the spoiler gives a nice line to the rear end. The split folding back seat makes for a lot of hauling room, but the liftback would be better for hauling tall things, if that is anticipated. It's a great little car, comfortable, and fairly zippy for 37-41 mpg, which is what I've gotten in my mostly curvy/hilly highway environment.

Liftback FTW!
I like hatches, but with kids would need four doors.

The sedan is very different from the Echo, much longer and lower, for much better proportions.

I have two sisters ages 9-13. They don't mind and they shouldn't complain. It's my car they should live with it. Same way your kids should. Don't worry. Your not forcing them to get in. If they think so, just tell them they are rolling a cool hatchback. lol Save your kids the embarrassment. LOL!

My kids (4,6,7) are rolling in a cool hatchback. But it's one with four doors. With a Mazda badge.

I like four-door hatches, and would like to see more of them in the U.S. And yet Ford just killed theirs.

My sedan I purchased has the tach and its an automatic..... I cant remember if only the sedan's have the tach or just the automatic sedan's. I do know that it was weird driving a manual hatchback (when I test drove them) that it did not have a tach to look at and the automatic sedan I test drove did. For some reason I am thinking that only the sedans with automatic came with the tach but I can not say forsure because I did not test drive a manual sedan.

The tach straight out of the Yaris brochure this is speaking of the sedan version.

[2] Tachometer standard on manual transmission only. Available on Sedan with automatic transmission and Power Package.
